We're a group of veterans from the autonomous vehicle industry who are passionate about bringing the benefits of automation to areas in the construction industry currently underserved by the market. We're growing our sizable fleet of retrofitted autonomous construction machines and we're looking for a motivated hardware engineering intern to support system testing and integration. You will work alongside senior engineers who design these systems, and you will help deliver robust and capable autonomous HW systems to the field.\nWhat You'll Do\nSupport the design, characterization, integration, and validation of Bedrock autonomy hardware and related systems, under the guidance of senior engineers.\n\nAssist with component evaluations for our autonomous HW platforms\n\nWrite sensor data analysis and test automation scripts (Python and/or C++/C/Rust)\n\nRun tests, collect data, and document results clearly for the engineering team\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nRequired\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field\n\nSolid foundational knowledge in HW engineering subjects such as mechanical, electrical, and embedded SW\n\nCoursework or project experience with some or all of the following:\nEmbedded compute platforms, including single-board computers or edge compute modules\n\nCommon autonomous sensing technologies such as lidar, camera, radar, GNSS, or IMUs\n\nPackaging and integration of HW systems, including basic mechanical or thermal considerations\n\nBasic signaling and communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, or Ethernet\n\nProficiency in one or more of Python, C/C++, or Rust, with the ability to write scripts for tests, data collection, or analysis\n\nStrong fundamentals in circuits, signals, and basic mechanical design\n\nComfortable working in a lab environment with tools such as a multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator, soldering iron, or hammer when necessary :)\n\nPreferred\nPrior co-op terms, personal projects, or club experience (e.g. UW Robotics, Formula Electric, WATonomous) in hardware or embedded systems\n\nExpertise with camera, lidar, radar, IMU, or GNSS\n\nEmbedded compute platforms, in particular the Nvidia Jetson lineup\n\nCommunication protocols (CAN, UART, SPI, RS232/422/485, Ethernet, etc.)\n\nCuriosity about autonomy and prior work in this area\n\nBasic PCB design or schematic capture tools (KiCad, Eagle, Altium, Cadence, etc.)\n\nExperience with version control (git) and collaborative engineering workflows\n\nFamiliarity with construction, off-road, or heavy equipment\n\nA portfolio of personal or academic hardware projects (robotics, embedded systems, etc.)\n\nAbout This Internship\nThis is a fixed-term, project-based internship designed strictly for students (undergraduate or graduate) seeking resume-building experience, hands-on skill development, or industry exposure rather than a direct career launchpad.
