Join us and be a part of our dynamic team, where your skills and ambitions will be nurtured and valued.\nPosition Summary\nThe Crew Leader is a hands-on working supervisor responsible for leading a crew in the construction, maintenance, and repair of utility infrastructure. This position combines field leadership with active participation in daily work activities to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality on every project. The Crew Leader upholds Benchmark’s standards for safety, teamwork, and professionalism while promoting a positive and productive job-site environment.\nKey Roles and Responsibilities\nLead and work alongside crew members to complete construction, maintenance, and repair of utility infrastructure. \nAssign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure work meets quality and safety standards. \nConduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs); enforce all OSHA and company safety protocols. \nReview work plans and communicate scope, expectations, and quality requirements to crew members. \nEnsure tools, materials, and equipment are available, maintained, and properly used. \nInspect ongoing and completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project specifications. \nMaintain clear communication with Foreman and/or Superintendent regarding progress, needs, and potential issues. \nAccurately complete and submit daily reports, timesheets, and related documentation. \nProvide on-the-job training, mentorship, and feedback to crew members to support development and performance. \nMaintain a clean, organized, and professional job site at all times. \nPerform hands-on labor and operate equipment as needed to support crew performance. \nSupport project closeout by ensuring punch list items and documentation are completed. \nPerform other duties as assigned. \nRequirements\nMinimum of 3 years of experience in utility or construction fieldwork, including prior leadership or crew lead responsibilities. \nStrong knowledge of utility construction methods, tools, and equipment. \nProven ability to supervise small crews while maintaining productivity, safety, and quality. \nAbility to read and interpret basic construction drawings and job instructions. \nMust have wet utility construction experience.\nStrong communication and teamwork skills. \nWillingness and ability to perform physical labor daily and operate heavy equipment as needed. \nBasic computer or mobile app proficiency for reporting and communication. \nValid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to safely tow and maneuver small trailers and equipment. \nAvailability to work extended hours and weekends as required. \nPreferred Qualifications\nOSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or equivalent construction safety certifications. \n5 or more years of utility or civil construction experience. \nDemonstrated success in leading crews on underground utility or infrastructure projects. \nAbility to perform basic layout, grade checking, and measurements for installation accuracy. \nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to stand, walk, and move around active construction sites for extended periods. \nLift and carry materials or tools up to 50 lbs; occasionally push or pull up to 100 lbs. \nWork outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, or rain. \nBend, kneel, and climb as required to perform field duties safely. \nBenefits\nBenchmark Utility Services offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits and a dynamic work environment that values excellence, teamwork, and professional growth.
