Bentley is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help design, build, and operate the cloud services behind SYNCHRO.\nA core part of this work is schedule synchronization. Construction schedules are large, densely interconnected graphs of tasks and dependencies, edited concurrently by multiple people across desktop and cloud, and often exchanged with external planning tools. Keeping them consistent - reconciling concurrent changes, preserving intent, and doing it reliably and fast at real-world scale - is one of the more interesting distributed-systems problems in our domain. If correctness under concurrency is the kind of problem you enjoy, you will find plenty of it here.\nThis is a senior role, and we mean it. You will own significant parts of our backend architecture end to end - from shaping requirements with product, through design and implementation, to running services in production. You will make technical decisions that outlive individual features, raise the engineering standard around you, and help others on the team grow.\nWe are looking for an engineer who is not only technically strong but also demonstrates ownership, accountability, and care for their work. We value engineers who care deeply about quality, maintainability, and long-term impact.\nYour work will directly contribute to Bentley's mission of delivering innovative software and services for the enterprises and professionals who design, build, and operate the world's infrastructure - advancing both the global economy and environment for an improved quality of life.\nResponsibilities:\nSchedule Synchronization: Design and build the services that keep schedule data consistent across clients and the cloud - handling concurrency, conflict resolution, and data integrity at scale. \nArchitecture & System Design: Lead the design of backend services and APIs, with a focus on scalability, resilience, security, and maintainability. Make and document decisions with clear trade-offs. \nImplementation: Build and evolve cloud microservices in C# and modern .NET (10+), using ASP.NET Core and Azure platform services. \nData: Design and optimize relational data models and queries; make deliberate choices about data access, caching, and consistency. \nProduction Ownership: Operate what you build - instrumentation, monitoring, alerting, diagnosing and resolving production issues. \nPerformance & Reliability: Profile and optimize services for throughput, latency, and cost; design for failure and graceful degradation. \nTesting: Drive a strong automated testing culture - unit, integration, and contract tests - and hold the bar in review. \nCI/CD & DevOps: Build and improve fully automated pipelines to production; follow DevOps practices from design through delivery. \nSecurity: Apply secure development practices - authentication and authorization, secrets management, and dependency hygiene. \nTechnical Leadership: Mentor engineers, lead code and design reviews, and help set standards across the team. \nCollaboration: Work effectively with product managers, frontend and desktop engineers, QA, and the teams whose services we consume or who depend on ours. \nQualifications:\nSubstantial professional experience (typically 5+ years) building backend systems in C#, including modern .NET (8/9/10). \nStrong experience with ASP.NET Core and designing well-structured HTTP APIs. \nProven experience designing, deploying, and operating cloud microservices in production. \nHands-on experience with a major cloud provider - Azure strongly preferred (e.g. Azure Functions, Azure Storage, Application Insights, Azure Batch). \nExperience with concurrency, data consistency, or conflict resolution in distributed systems - or a clear appetite to work on it. \nStrong relational database skills, including schema design and query performance - MSSQL/Azure SQL preferred. \nPractical experience with data access using EF Core and/or Dapper, and a clear view on when each fits. \nExperience with message-based and event-driven architectures, and with patterns such as CQRS and mediator. \nA test-driven mindset and a track record of building maintainable, well-tested systems. \nSolid CI/CD experience and comfort owning delivery all the way to production. \nProficiency with Git and modern branching / review workflows. \nUnderstanding of the short- and long-term implications of technical decisions, and pragmatism about when to refactor and when to ship. \nClear verbal and written communication skills, including with non-engineering stakeholders. \nSelf-driven mindset with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to mentor others. \nNice to Have\nDocker and Kubernetes, and experience running containerized workloads. \nPostgreSQL experience alongside SQL Server. \nApplied security experience - threat modelling, secure design reviews, or working to a security standard. \nExposure to C++ or willingness to work across a C++/.NET boundary. \nExperience with Azure DevOps. \nExperience working in Scrum / Agile environments at scale. \nAbout SYNCHRO\nSYNCHRO is a cutting-edge 4D construction planning and project management suite that transforms how infrastructure projects are designed, built, and delivered.
