This role helps drive sales, supervises staff, maintains inventory, and ensures compliance with company standards for service, safety, and operations. The ASM serves as a hands-on leader, providing direction to associates, resolving issues, and stepping in for the Store Manager when needed.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES\nLeadership & Supervision\nAssist the Store Manager in leading and developing all store and yard associates.\nProvide coaching, training, and performance input to ensure team success.\nMaintain staffing coverage and assist with scheduling to support business needs.\nServe as acting Store Manager in the SM’s absence.\nCustomer Service & Sales Support\nDeliver exceptional customer service to contractors, walk-in customers, and B2B clients.\nAssist in resolving escalated customer issues related to orders, returns, or product quality.\nSupport sales teams by ensuring timely communication regarding special orders, product arrivals, and service issues.\nConduct store and yard walkthroughs to verify merchandising, cleanliness, and safety.\nOperational Support & Inventory Management\nOversee receiving, stocking, staging, and fulfillment of customer and delivery orders.\nEnsure accurate inventory counts through participation in cycle counts and physical inventory.\nPartner with the Store Manager and Purchasing Agent to maintain proper inventory levels.\nMonitor yard flow and ensure orders are pulled, bunked, and staged accurately and efficiently.\nFinancial & Administrative Duties\nSupport the Store Manager in monitoring labor hours, expense control, and shrink.\nAssist with tracking store performance metrics and preparing reports.\nContribute to process improvement initiatives that enhance customer and associate experiences.\nSafety & Equipment Oversight\nEnforce safety standards in compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and local regulations.\nConduct and oversee daily forklift and equipment inspections.\nPromote and maintain a clean, organized, and safe store and yard environment.\nSKILLS & ABILITIES\nStrong leadership and team-building skills\nExcellent communication and conflict resolution abilities\nAbility to read and interpret invoices, tickets, and inventory reports\nSolid organizational and time management skills\nKnowledge of lumber, building materials, and construction supplies preferred\nComputer literacy and ability to use inventory and POS systems\nBilingual (English/Spanish or Russian/Ukrainian) preferred\nEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE\nHigh school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred\n3-5 years of experience in retail, building materials, or construction-related role\n1-3 years of supervisory or lead experience required\nForklift certification (OSHA-compliant) required or ability to obtain\nValid Driver’s License; CDL Class B preferred\nPHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS\nAble to lift and carry up to 50 lbs\nFrequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, and climbing\nWork is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions\nMust be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and overtime as needed\nRegularly exposed to noise, dust, mechanical equipment, and vehicle traffic\nBENEFITS\nAvailable to all Full-Time employees.\nPaid Sick Leave (Sick Pay)\n401(K) with employer contribution \nMedical, Dental, Vision, & Life Insurance\nSALARY RANGE\n$70,000 - $90,000 DOE\nBerco Redwood/Berry Lumber, Inc. is an equal-opportunity employer.
