This position plays a key role in ensuring on-time, damage-free deliveries while providing top-tier customer service and supporting the operational needs of our yard and dispatch teams.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES\nSafely operate a Class A or Class B commercial truck, including flatbed or dump trucks, and utilize piggyback forklifts for loading/unloading when needed\nDeliver redwood, composite materials, lumber, hardware, and job-specific materials to a variety of customer sites-including residential driveways, job sites, and contractor yards\nLoad and unload product safely and efficiently based on delivery tickets, ensuring accuracy and protection of materials\nSecure all loads using required tie-downs, including straps and edge protectors, in accordance with load securement standards\nOperate a truck-mounted piggyback forklift for loading and unloading materials at customer sites and job locations\nRead and interpret delivery instructions, route sheets, and customer notes to ensure timely, accurate service\nCommunicate with dispatch regarding delays, site access issues, or material discrepancies\nInteract professionally with contractors and homeowners on-site, providing excellent service and resolving any basic delivery-related questions\nAssist in verifying inventory and material readiness before loading; report shortages or material issues promptly\nMaintain accurate logs and delivery paperwork, including signatures, photos (as needed), and incident reports\nConduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report maintenance concerns and ensure the truck is clean and road-ready\nSupport the yard and operations team when not on delivery, including stocking, organizing inventory, staging orders, or assisting with customer pickups\nParticipate in regular safety meetings and training sessions to maintain a safe working environment\nAdhere to company policies, DOT regulations, and all safety procedures at all times\nPerform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.\nSKILLS & ABILITIES\nStrong understanding of load securement and weight distribution principles\nAbility to navigate safely in tight spaces (residential neighborhoods, active job sites)\nComfortable using smartphones/tablets for delivery tracking apps and digital logs\nKnowledge of basic construction terms and materials helpful for field communication\nSelf-motivated, punctual, and dependable with a professional demeanor\nEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE\nValid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required\nClean driving record with a strong history of safe driving practices\n1-2 years of commercial driving experience preferred (especially in the building materials industry)\nForklift and piggyback forklift operation experience preferred (certification is a plus)\nStrong customer service orientation and ability to communicate effectively with non-technical and technical customers\nFamiliarity with building materials-particularly redwood, composite decking, framing lumber, and hardware-is highly desirable\nAbility to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate a variety of jobsite environments\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nMust be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly\nAbility to climb in/out of truck beds and operate piggyback forklifts on varied terrain\nProlonged periods of standing, lifting, walking, and operating equipment\nExposure to outdoor weather, dust, noise, and materials such as treated lumber, cement, or composite decking\nBENEFIT\nAvailable to all Full-Time employees.\nPaid Sick Leave (Sick Pay)\n401(K) with employer contribution\nMedical, Dental, Vision, & Life Insurance\nSALARY RANGE\nClass A Driver: $26.00 - $35.00 DOE\nClass B Driver: $23.00 - $30.00 DOE\nBerco Building Materials is an equal employment opportunity employer.
