We are looking for a Software Developer within Energy Management Systems (EMS) who wants to work at the intersection of software, automation, power electronics, and marine technology.\nAt Berg Propulsion, you will develop solutions that manage and optimize electrical energy and power onboard vessels. Software is becoming an increasingly important part of our systems, particularly as electrification and the use of battery and energy storage solutions continue to grow.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Software Developer within Energy Management Systems, you will contribute to the development of our next generation of onboard energy and power management solutions.\nYour main focus will be software development in C and C++ in a Linux environment, but the role extends well beyond programming. You will work throughout the entire development lifecycle - from requirements, system design, and architecture to implementation, integration, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.\nOur systems interface with battery systems, power electronics, propulsion systems, and other onboard control systems. This means you will work closely with software, hardware, and the complete system, giving you the opportunity to see how your solutions perform in real-world operation.\nYou will join a software team of approximately 17 developers with different levels of experience and technical specializations. You will also collaborate closely with engineers within automation, electrical systems, propulsion, and systems engineering, as well as colleagues across R&D, Contract, and Production.\nIn this role, you will:\nDevelop and maintain software for Linux-based Energy Management Systems.\n\nDesign and implement functionality in C and C++.\n\nHelp shape how our systems and their functions are designed and operate.\n\nDevelop interfaces and communication with battery systems, power electronics, and other onboard systems.\n\nContribute to system architecture and software design.\n\nPerform software and system testing, verification, and validation.\n\nTroubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.\n\nDevelop and maintain HMI functionality and system interfaces.\n\nContribute to test environments, simulation, and automated testing.\n\nSupport integration and commissioning in laboratory environments and onboard vessels.\n\nContribute technical expertise to the development of future energy and power management solutions.\n\nThe role may involve international travel to shipyards, vessels, customers, and partners in connection with integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting.\nQualifications\nEducation\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical field.\n\nWe are open to different technical backgrounds - your expertise and understanding of software development and complex systems are what matter most.\n\nTechnical Knowledge\nWe are looking for someone with:\nStrong knowledge of C and/or C++.\n\nExperience developing in a Linux environment.\n\nA good understanding of software design, debugging, and testing.\n\nKnowledge of version control and modern software development practices.\n\nProfessional proficiency in English.\n\nExperience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas is considered an advantage:\nEnergy Management Systems (EMS), Battery Management Systems (BMS), or Power Management Systems (PMS).\n\nBattery systems, power electronics, converters, or electrical power systems.\n\nIndustrial communication protocols and network-based control systems.\n\nEmbedded or real-time software development.\n\nControl systems and automation.\n\nHMI development.\n\nSystem and software architecture.\n\nSimulation, automated testing, or Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).\n\nExperience\nExperience in professional software development using C and/or C++.\n\nExperience working in Linux-based development environments.\n\nExperience with testing, debugging, and problem-solving in software systems.\n\nExperience with system testing, validation, troubleshooting, marine propulsion systems, vessel automation, or other maritime systems is considered an advantage.\nIdeally, you have a few years of relevant professional experience, but we do not have a specific requirement regarding the number of years.
