Responsibilities

The EDI Technician is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant electronic data interchange (EDI) filings for workers’ compensation claims across applicable jurisdictions.

Key functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Maintain current, working knowledge of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) requirements, including FROI and SROI filing rules, for all applicable states of jurisdiction.
• Review new claims as they are created to confirm all state-specific data and reporting requirements are identified and captured accurately and timely.
• Complete or verify required data fields within the claims system (e.g., Guidewire ClaimCenter) to ensure each claim meets the specific EDI requirements of the applicable state.
• Partner directly with claims adjusters to guide correct and complete data entry, answer EDI-related questions, and provide support throughout the life of the claim.
• Proactively identify and communicate current trends, recurring data errors, and common filing mistakes to adjusters and claims leadership to help prevent future errors.
• Monitor FROI and SROI filings for errors or rejections; research root causes and take immediate corrective action to resubmit accurate filings within required state timeframes.
• Track and prioritize error correction work to ensure filings are completed proactively, ahead of state deadlines, rather than reactively after issues are identified by regulators.
• Stay informed of jurisdictional and state rule changes and communicate updates to adjusters and internal teams in a timely manner.
• Support the documentation and continuous improvement of EDI-related standard operating procedures, job aids, and training resources.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
• Coursework or experience related to insurance, workers' compensation, claims, or regulatory compliance is beneficial.

Qualifications:

• Current, hands-on experience with Workers' Compensation EDI reporting, including FROI and SROI filing processes. Candidates must be able to clearly demonstrate their working knowledge of EDI requirements and processes during the interview process, regardless of number of years of experience.

• Demonstrated ability to explain and apply EDI and state-specific filing requirements clearly, both verbally and in writing, to adjusters and internal partners.
• Strong working knowledge of state jurisdictional requirements for workers' compensation reporting, with the ability to research and stay current as regulations change.
• Ability to review claims data with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to identify missing or incorrect information before filing deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to research FROI and SROI errors, identify root causes, and implement timely corrections.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned states and claims, and exercise sound judgment within established procedures and authority.
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with adjusters, claims leadership, technology partners, and vendors.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, filing deadlines, and shifting workloads while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
• Demonstrated flexibility, curiosity, and willingness to learn evolving state requirements, participate in cross-training, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
• Ability to document processes and assist in training or supporting adjusters and internal partners on EDI-related topics.
• IAIABC (International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions) EDI certification or related training is not required but is a strong plus.
