The suitable candidate should have the ability to work in multi-disciplined project teams across BGC’s various business sectors, with a focus on mining.\nResponsibilities\nKey duties and responsibilities include:\nWorking on projects related to geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for proposed and operating open pit and/or underground mines\nCollaborate with multidisciplinary project teams across BGC’s business sectors, contributing geotechnical expertise to a variety of projects.\nPerforming rock mass characterization including interpretation of data collected from drillholes, surface mapping, laboratory testing, and other field data\nDevelopment of geotechnical models (3D geological and structural modeling software experience is a plus)\nPerforming empirical, analytical, and numerical stability analyses for open pit and underground rock mechanics assessments\nPreparing technical documents related to your project work\nMentoring a team of junior geotechnical and geological engineers and geoscientists\nParticipating in proposal writing and project cost estimating\nTraveling within the US and internationally for site visits and field work\nField work including: geotechnical core logging, hydrogeological subsurface testing, surface and face mapping, and instrumentation installation.\nRequired Education, Experience & Competencies\nBachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a similar degree\nPost graduate degree is desirable\n5+ years of progressive rock mechanics experience\nSome consulting experience is an asset\nPE registration in the US or the ability to obtain registration within 12 months of hire date\nStrong analytical skills including numerical modelling experience\nAbility to learn and adapt new software tools including in-house developed software and workflows\nStrong skills in critical thinking, technical writing, and verbal communication\nLeadership skills\nAbility to mentor junior engineers and geoscientists\nPosition Requirements\nDrug & Alcohol Testing\nTo ensure we meet our client’s compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position.
