prevent transformation from simply adding more technology.\n\n- Own technical-debt transparency and structural simplification agenda.\n\n- Shape build-vs-buy, SaaS/platform and strategic technology choices based on business capability, economics and long-term flexibility.\n\n- Act as CTO's independent technical adviser on major investments and architectural risks.\n\nKey interfaces / boundaries:\n\n- Architecture sets guardrails and target state; Engineering owns implementation and delivery.\n\n- Architecture must enable speed through paved roads/reference patterns - not create approval queues.\n\n- Data/AI, Infrastructure and Security own their platforms; Architecture ensures enterprise coherence across them.\n\n- Product/business priorities are not decided by Architecture, but material architectural consequences must be transparent.\n\nCTO-2 functions:\n\n- Enterprise Architecture\n\n- Domain & Solution Architecture\n\n- Architecture Governance & Standards\n\n- Technology Radar & Strategic Architecture\n\n- Application Rationalisation & Technical Debt\n\nPrimary outcomes & success measures:\n\nOutcome:\n\n- Simplification: Application count reduction, duplicate capability removal, legacy retirement.\n\n- Architecture quality: Compliance to target patterns, exception volume/ageing, solution rework.\n\n- Reuse: Shared platform/API/event/data-product adoption.\n\n- Technical debt: Structural debt reduction and ageing of critical debt.\n\n- Speed: Architecture decision lead time; % delivery using pre-approved/paved patterns.\n\n- Economics: TCO avoided/reduced through rationalisation and strategic platform choices.\n\nLeadership profile:\n\n- Experience: Typically 20+ years across enterprise/solution architecture and large-scale modernization;
