You’ll help new starters settle into their roles, support existing colleagues in developing their skills and promote a positive safety culture throughout our business.\nWorking closely with depot teams and Business Managers, you’ll ensure colleagues have the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to carry out their roles safely, efficiently and in line with Biffa’s policies and relevant legislation.\nWhat will you be doing?\nDelivering onboarding and induction: Ensuring new starters receive a comprehensive introduction to Biffa, our values, safety standards and operational procedures.\nDeveloping driver skills: Coaching and mentoring drivers to improve their driving standards, road safety awareness and overall performance.\nProviding practical training: Delivering depot-based training across a range of vehicles and operational activities, including vehicle defect checks, wheel torquing, manual handling, in-cab PDAs, tachographs, logbooks and driver debriefs.\nPromoting a strong safety culture: Carrying out vehicle gate checks, crew monitoring and toolbox talks to identify risks, reinforce safe working practices and encourage positive behaviours.\nSupporting operational compliance: Helping depots meet vehicle gate check, crew monitoring and route risk assessment targets, while ensuring colleagues understand the importance of complying with Operator Licence requirements.\nMonitoring performance: Assessing colleagues' skills and competencies, identifying areas for improvement and working with Business Managers to address training needs.\nMaintaining accurate records: Ensuring training documentation and assessment records are completed, uploaded and maintained in line with company procedures.\nIdentifying and reporting risks: Highlighting potential hazards, unsafe working practices and opportunities to improve risk assessments and safe systems of work.\nSupporting recruitment: Assisting with interviews and pre-driving assessments when required.\nYou'll also work closely with depot teams to ensure our vehicles are maintained in a clean and tidy condition and that any significant issues or concerns are reported promptly.\nWhat are we looking for?\nWe're looking for someone who combines excellent driving skills with a genuine passion for training, coaching and developing others.\nEssential requirements:\nA valid LGV Category C (Class 2) driving licence.\nUp-to-date Driver CPC.\nExcellent driving ability and a strong understanding of road safety.\nWorking knowledge of transport legislation and the regulations governing drivers and mobile workers.\nUnderstanding of the demands of working in a fast-paced, time-critical operational environment.\nStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, influence and engage colleagues at all levels.\nGood IT skills, including confidence using business systems and Microsoft Office.\nExcellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.\nA positive, proactive approach to health and safety, with the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours appropriately.\nFlexibility to travel across the region, work some unsociable hours and occasionally stay away overnight.\nWhy Biffa?\nAt Biffa, you'll be part of a team that makes a real difference to the communities we serve every day.\nWe believe in creating an environment where colleagues can develop, share their knowledge and achieve their potential.
