You’ll lead complex process improvement initiatives, use data and technical expertise to identify opportunities, and work collaboratively with operational and engineering teams to deliver sustainable improvements in safety, quality, reliability and cost efficiency.\nYour core responsibilities\nLead the identification, development and implementation of process improvements to increase operational efficiency, improve reliability and reduce costs.\n\nAnalyse operational and process data to identify performance trends, root causes, bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.\n\nLead continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean principles and structured problem-solving techniques to deliver measurable results.\n\nProvide technical leadership and guidance to engineers, operational teams and key stakeholders on process design, optimisation and best practice.\n\nDevelop, review and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures, process flow diagrams, P&IDs and technical specifications.\n\nEnsure process designs and operational changes meet relevant health and safety, environmental, quality and regulatory requirements.\n\nLead engineering projects involving process modifications, equipment upgrades and new installations, ensuring delivery against agreed timescales, budgets and performance objectives.\n\nEvaluate existing processes and develop innovative, practical solutions to improve productivity, resource utilisation and overall operational performance.\n\nWork closely with operations, maintenance, engineering and project teams to ensure process improvements are implemented effectively and embedded into day-to-day operations.\n\nSupport the development of business cases, technical assessments and project proposals, providing clear recommendations based on data, risk and expected benefits.\n\nIdentify and share best practice across relevant Biffa sites, supporting consistency, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.\n\nMonitor the effectiveness of implemented changes, ensuring benefits are realised, sustained and communicated to key stakeholders.\n\nOur essential requirements\nA degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or another relevant discipline), or equivalent relevant engineering experience.\n\nSignificant experience in process engineering, process optimisation or a similar technical engineering role.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into practical improvements.\n\nProven experience leading engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.\n\nStrong understanding of engineering principles, technical drawings and process documentation.\n\nKnowledge of relevant health and safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.\n\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across operational and technical teams.\n\nA proactive approach to identifying opportunities, driving change and delivering measurable improvements.\n\nFull, current UK driving licence and willingness to travel to relevant Biffa
