You’ll play an important role in maintaining high engineering standards, reducing downtime, carrying out fabrication and welding repairs where required, and ensuring all maintenance work is completed safely and efficiently.\nYour core responsibilities\nDeliver high levels of plant availability through effective maintenance, fabrication and rapid breakdown response.\n\nDiagnose mechanical faults quickly and carry out efficient repairs to minimise operational downtime.\n\nSupport and deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules across site equipment and machinery.\n\nCarry out fabrication, welding, cutting and modification work to repair, maintain or improve plant, machinery and associated equipment.\n\nManufacture, repair and modify metal components, brackets, guards, supports and other plant parts as required.\n\nIdentify recurring faults and help develop long-term engineering solutions, fabrication improvements and process enhancements.\n\nCarry out mechanical maintenance, fitting, fabrication and repair work on plant and equipment in line with operational priorities.\n\nRead and interpret engineering drawings, sketches and technical specifications to support maintenance and fabrication activities.\n\nLiaise with external contractors and suppliers regarding specialist maintenance, fabrication and repair activities.\n\nMaintain high standards of health & safety, compliance and housekeeping at all times, particularly when undertaking welding, hot works and other fabrication activities.\n\nEnsure engineering and fabrication activities comply with company procedures and current legislation.\n\nSupport continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, operational efficiency and plant performance.\n\nOur essential requirements\nEngineering or fabrication qualification, such as Level 3 City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent.\n\nStrong mechanical maintenance and/or fabrication experience within an industrial environment.\n\nExperience carrying out fault finding, repairs and preventative maintenance on production or processing equipment, and/or fabrication and welding repairs.\n\nPractical experience in fabrication, metalwork, welding and the repair or modification of metal components would be advantageous.\n\nAbility to work effectively within a fast-paced operational environment.\n\nA proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.\n\nDesirable qualifications\nHNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering.\n\nIOSH Managing Safely qualification.\n\nAdditional welding, fabrication or coded welding qualifications.\n\nThe following job titles would also be considered for this role:\nWe would consider applications from candidates with previous job titles such as: Mechanical Shift Engineer, Shift Mechanical Technician, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Technician, Plant Maintenance Engineer, Shift Engineer, Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Technician, Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer, Industrial Maintenance Engineer, Fabricator, Welder Fabricator, Maintenance Fabricator, Mechanical Fabricator, Fabrication Engineer, Welding Technician or Industrial Fabricator.\nAnd here’s why you’ll love it at Biffa\nCompetitive salary + London Weighting Allowance\n\nOngoing career development, training and coaching, because if you don’t grow, we don’t grow\n\nGenerous pension scheme\n\nMedical and dental scheme\n\nRetail and leisure discounts\n\nHoliday and travel discounts\n\nBike to work scheme\n\nChanging the way people think about waste\nAt Biffa, we love working with waste.
