A Scientist investigates the feasibility of applying a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential products, processes, and innovations. Scientists are responsible for remaining familiar with molecular biology concepts, practices, and procedures including PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR, and the use of fluorescence-based nucleic acid detection techniques. A Scientist I manages a team of Research Associates who assist in executing research and development efforts under the direction of a Scientist.\nPrimary Duties\nPlans and executes laboratory research supporting the development of new products and supporting the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing products.\nDevelops processes and procedures to aid in the development and maintenance of product lines.\nMaintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.\nUses professional concepts to contribute to the development of company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.\nRequires interaction with various company departments. \nDemonstrates potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought. \nEnsures that laboratory notebooks for assigned projects/experiments are maintained in accordance with BioFire Defense Employment Handbook.\nPerforms all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Defense Quality System.\nMay contribute to literature and conferences.\nMay advise top management on corporate research and development.\nMay participate in development of patent applications.\nPrincipal Decisions\nList principal decisions required for the position.
