This role applies materials science and chemistry expertise to polymers, films, membranes, reagents, dyes, and other process-critical raw materials. This role lies at the intersection of materials science and chemistry.\nThe individual designs and executes experiments, analyzes complex data sets, and develops or applies computational tools to support material screening, product development, process improvement, verification, validation, manufacturing transfer, and technical investigations in a regulated environment. The role works independently and cross-functionally, communicates technical findings clearly, and maintains high-quality documentation.\nPrimary Duties\nTroubleshoot technical issues specific to the materials chemistry of the AST systems, record and report these issues cross-functionally, and provide suggestions and resolutions for investigations.\nBrainstorm and test novel product development ideas based on high-level objectives and latest research findings.\nDevelop and apply computational tools, scripts, and/or statistical methods to analyze, visualize, and interpret large, complex data sets generated from experiments and manufacturing studies.\nAnticipate and mitigate technical risks or hazards associated with experiments, materials, and project plans.\nSupport materials and/or chemistry-related process improvements and help define tests or critical quality attributes needed to monitor product performance and quality control.\nOperate following product development process guidance: write detailed documentation, set requirements for new products, run verification on those requirements, participate in validation as required.\nEnsure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO) and comply with biohazard safety standards.\nRead, analyze, and interpret scientific literature, technical procedures, and regulatory guidance relevant to sensor chemistry and diagnostic product development.\nParticipate in technical design reviews, product risk assessments, data reviews, and cross-functional investigation meetings.\nCollaborate with other scientists and managers to optimize testing protocols and workflows within the lab.\nPerform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nQualifications\nRequired Education, Training and Experience\nBachelor's degree required in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field\n2 years of professional related experience in a regulated lab working in Product Development\nMaterials Science, Chemistry, Biomedical Devices, or Product Development Post Doc experience will be considered as professional experience\nPreferred Education, Training and Experience\nAdvanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field.\n1+ year of iterative product development work.\nExperience using advanced statistical methods and tools such as JMP, Minitab, R, Python, MATLAB, or equivalent to analyze and visualize large, multivariable experimental or manufacturing data sets.\nExperience writing or adapting code to automate data cleaning, analysis, visualization, model fitting, or reporting.\nExperience screening and selecting materials, defining test methods or specifications, and optimizing material interfaces to balance product performance, manufacturability, reliability, and supply continuity.\nExperience in medical device, diagnostics, in vitro diagnostic (IVD), biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or other regulated product development environments.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nConsistently upholds and reflects the core ethical principles and values that bioMérieux promotes.\nThriving in a fast-paced environment by managing tasks, multitasking, and adapting quickly to maintain productivity.\nDetail orientation to complete tasks without errors and produce high-quality work.\nWritten Communications - including the ability to communicate technical data in written form.\nInforming others by sharing clear, timely information to ensure alignment.\nEffective verbal communication skills.\nSkilled in MS Office tools to include but not limited to Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel. Operational, tactical, and strategic decisions are made with supervisory review and approval.\nWorking Conditions\nAbility to remain in stationary position, either sitting or standing, for prolonged periods.\nAbility to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.\nAbility to wear PPE correctly most of the day.\nTotal Travel: 0%\nPosition is lab-based and follows work practices for working with laboratory biohazards and chemical hazards. Postion is based in St. Louis, MO and is required to be onsite at least 80% of the time or 4 days a week.\nThe estimated salary range for this role is between $77,200-$114,300. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMérieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living.
