The company has built a multi-dimensional platform spanning property management, construction management, acquisitions, lending, and proprietary data analytics, in the NYC multifamily market.\nWith a portfolio of more than 50 multifamily buildings and plans to add 250+ additional units this year, the firm partners with major institutional investors to support a portfolio that includes units ranging from luxury Class A to affordable, and rent-stabilized buildings throughout New York City.\nThey are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for its growing portfolio. This role is ideal for a hands-on operational accounting leader with deep multifamily experience, strong Yardi expertise, and a proven ability to manage remote and offshore accounting teams in a high-growth environment.\nThe Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of accounting processes. The ideal candidate brings 10-15 years of multifamily accounting experience and has the operational mindset to identify process improvements while maintaining strict financial reporting deadlines.\nResponsibilities\nLead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple multifamily properties and entities\n\nReview, approve, and independently sign off on property-level financial statements in accordance with GAAP\n\nOversee financial reporting timelines, including delivery of 40+ monthly financial packages by established deadlines\n\nQuickly identify and resolve discrepancies within property financials and reporting packages\n\nOversee reconciliations including bank accounts, security deposits, taxes, and intercompany accounts\n\nOversee A/P, A/R, cash management, and treasury-related processes\n\nCoordinate audits, tax filings, and lender reporting requirements\n\nManage and mentor a team of remote/offshore property accountants and accounting support staff\n\nHelp scale accounting operations and improve workflows as the portfolio continues to grow\n\nDrive operational efficiencies, process improvements, and strengthened internal controls\n\nAssist with onboarding newly acquired assets, including opening balance sheets, establishing accruals, coordinating bank account setup and treasury functions, and transitioning assets to assigned property accountants\n\nPartner with Asset Management teams on variance analysis and NOI drivers\n\nParticipate in bi-weekly client and ownership update calls to address financial and operational matters\n\nBuild and enhance financial reporting and analysis tools utilizing advanced Microsoft Excel skills\n\nServe as the system lead and subject matter expert for Yardi\n\nOversee preparation and review of NYC regulatory filings, including TC (Tax Commission / certiorari support), RPIE (Real Property Income & Expense filings), and independently review and sign off on RPIE filings\n\nQualifications\n8+ years of accounting experience within real estate accounting\n\nStrong multifamily property accounting experience\n\nCPA Designation Preferred\n\nExperience overseeing large portfolios and multiple entities/assets simultaneously\n\nExperience managing remote and/or offshore accounting teams\n\nAdvanced proficiency in Yardi and Microsoft Excel\n\nDeep understanding of accrual accounting and property-level financial reporting\n\nExperience with NYC regulatory filings including TC and RPIE\n\nStrong organizational, communication, and deadline management
