Read more on the Bitwarden blog. \nAs a Senior Rust Engineer on the Desktop Native team, you will own desktop autofill and native OS integrations, including the SSH agent, Autotype, native passkeys, and the DuckDuckGo integration, built on the same cross-platform Rust SDK that also powers browser autofill. This role is primarily for someone strong in Rust, FFI and language bindings, and native OS-level integration on Windows, macOS, and Linux, with the unusual challenge of delivering secure, reliable native experiences on top of a zero-knowledge, end-to-end encrypted product. This is not primarily a front-end or UI role.\nWHAT YOU WILL DO\nDesign, build, and maintain native desktop integrations including the SSH agent, Autotype, native passkeys, and the DuckDuckGo integration\nParticipate in the hands-on design, development, and evolution of the shared Rust SDK, including language bindings and FFI, consumed across desktop and browser clients\nInterface directly with OS-level APIs on Windows, macOS, and Linux to deliver reliable native behavior.\nImprove performance, reliability, security, and maintainability of native integrations handling sensitive credential data.\nPartner with product, design, QA, and the Autofill team to deliver high-quality experiences end to end.\nReview pull requests and help raise the quality of native/systems engineering, including community contributions in GitHub.\nIdentify technical debt and contribute to pragmatic refactoring and architecture improvements to the Desktop Native roadmap\nParticipate in code reviews, learning, and spreading technical knowledge\nIndependently plan, estimate, and deliver new feature work and bug fixes\nOccasionally review & approve bug fixes submitted by the user community\nWHAT YOU BRING TO BITWARDEN\nStrong production Rust experience - 4-6+ years overall backend/systems experience, including FFI and language bindings\nNative desktop application experience, interfacing directly with OS-level APIs on Windows, macOS, or Linux\nExperience designing and versioning cross-platform SDKs or shared libraries consumed by multiple client surfaces\nExperience using AI tooling in your development and testing workflow (Anthropic Claude preferred)\nExperience with Electron, TypeScript, and other web tech for cross-platform desktop applications and web clients is a plus\nCollaborative and adaptable mindset\nOpenness and authenticity combined with excellent communication skills\nExcitement and enthusiasm for open source and for better internet security \nExcellent problem-solving skills - you might not know all the answers, but you know how to find and communicate the solution\nWHY WORK WITH US\nOur user community loves us and we love them.
