This is a people-first leadership role: you will own DevSecOps strategy and technical direction across our portfolio while recruiting, mentoring, and growing a high-performing team. The ideal candidate is both a proven technical leader and a genuine people leader, someone who earns trust through servant leadership, builds team capability deliberately, and can represent Bixal's DevSecOps capabilities in business development efforts when called upon.\nLocation\nThis role can work remotely from anywhere in the United States, excluding its territories. You must be legally authorized to work in the US. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.\nCompensation:\nThe salary range for this role is $165,000 - $195,000. In the spirit of transparency, most offers tend to land near the midpoint of the range. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.\nResponsibilities:\nTeam Leadership & Practice Growth\nBuild, lead, and grow the DevSecOps practice, including recruiting, onboarding, and staffing across active projects and new pursuits\n\nMentor and develop engineers at all levels, creating growth paths and stretch opportunities\n\nFoster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement\n\nManage team overhead and staffing allocations in partnership with Practice Area Directors and Finance\n\nSet performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and support career development for direct reports\n\nDevSecOps Strategy & Architecture Oversight\nDefine and own DevSecOps strategy and technical standards across active programs and new pursuits\n\nGuide design of secure, scalable, cloud-native platforms (CI/CD, IaC, container orchestration, identity/access, observability)\n\nEstablish architecture standards, reusable patterns, and governance aligned with NIST/FISMA/FedRAMP\n\nLead modernization efforts - legacy-to-cloud migrations, platform hardening, automation, AI integration\n\nServe as an escalation point for complex technical challenges across programs\n\nBusiness Development Support\nPartner with BD/capture teams to shape win themes through DevSecOps architecture and delivery approach\n\nContribute to technical proposal content - technical volumes, staffing plans, past performance narratives\n\nRepresent Bixal's DevSecOps capabilities in client discussions, solutioning sessions, and orals\n\nClient & Stakeholder Engagement\nServe as a trusted technical voice with clients, communicating decisions and trade-offs clearly at all levels\n\nKeep senior leadership informed on practice health, staffing, and delivery risk\n\nQualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field\n\nAt least 10 years of progressive experience in DevSecOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or technical architecture, including federal or highly regulated environments\n\nAt least 5 years of direct people management experience, with a track record of building and growing high-performing technical teams\n\nAt least 3 years of working with federal government contracts and clients\n\nDemonstrated ownership of end-to-end cloud architecture and delivery outcomes in complex environments\n\nDeep experience with one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern DevOps practices (IaC, CI/CD, containers/Kubernetes)\n\nStrong understanding of secure delivery and compliance-driven environments; ability to embed DevSecOps into the SDLC\n\nProven ability to recruit, mentor, and retain technical talent, with genuine investment in people's growth\n\nExperience supporting federal proposals with solutioning, writing, or technical challenges\n\nExcellent communication skills - able to translate complex technical concepts for technical and non-technical audiences, and navigate hard conversations with empathy\n\nThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust clearance determination in support of a federal government contract.\n\nNice to Have Skills and Experience:\nCloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and/or enterprise architecture credentials\n\nExperience with Databricks or integrating Databricks into environments\n\nExperience building reusable platform patterns that accelerate delivery across teams\n\nActive participation in DevSecOps or cloud communities, with recent thought leadership\n\nMaster's degree in a related technical or business discipline\n\nExperience with Agile/Scrum environments and tools such as the Atlassian suite\n\nPrior experience as a practice lead or people manager in a government contracting environment\n\nHow We Support Our Team:\nFlex hours\n\n401K with matching incentive\n\nParental Leave\n\nMedical/dental/vision benefits\n\nFlex Spending Account\n\nCompany provided short-term disability and life insurance\n\nCommuter benefits\n\nPaid Time Off (PTO)\n\n11 Paid holidays\n\nOur company is committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all individuals and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws.
