The successful candidate will be a hands-on operational leader responsible for client relationship management, technical troubleshooting, staff supervision, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and service delivery.\nAt Black & McDonald, you’ll be part of a stable and growing organization that values teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement while providing opportunities for career advancement and professional development.\nResponsibilities include but are not limited to:\nAddress technical / operating issues in the most efficient manner.\nMake recommendations on strategic initiatives, which could include cost saving measures or enhancements to the services or systems.\nSupervise and provide direction to staff and subcontractors.\nEnsure subcontractors are qualified and accredited/certified as required for the work.\nPrepare and write reports and lead NGC client meetings.\nManage employee schedules, vacation planning, and daily work assignments.\nDeliver hands-on technical leadership and actively participate in troubleshooting building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, BAS/DDC, lighting control, and emergency power systems.\nReview building alarms, trends, and system performance and make operational adjustments as required.\nPromote and enforce Black & McDonald’s health, safety and environmental programs through inspections, hazard assessments, safety meetings, and compliance activities.\nCOMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS\nPost-secondary diploma in a related technical discipline or a recognized trade certification in a building systems field.\nMinimum 10 years of building operations and maintenance experience within commercial, institutional, industrial, or special-purpose facilities.\nMinimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience supporting multidisciplinary maintenance teams.\nAbility to organize work in an efficient and reliable manner.\nGood problem solving and leadership skills.\nStrong interpersonal, communication, client relationship, and leadership skills.\nStrong commitment to health, safety, and continuous improvement.\nWORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS\nGood working knowledge of:\nHVAC equipment and systems.\nElectrical systems.\nPlumbing systems.\nBuilding controls systems.\nInstrumentation and documentation related to Direct Digital Building Controls (DDC) and programming preferably with VCI Controls system of Bacnet generation.\nMechanical equipment troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.\nApplicable building codes, safety regulations, ASHRAE standards, etc. (NBC, NEC, CLC, NFC, OSHA, WHMIS).\nEnvironmental issues, proper use and disposal of products, health related situations such as molds and bacterium.\nSKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS\nProficiency in one official language and working knowledge of second official language (English and French).\nAble to read and understand building plans/drawings.\nGood working knowledge of Microsoft Office related applications.\nRefrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic certification is strongly preferred.\nCandidates possessing a Stationary Engineer certification with extensive mechanical systems experience and demonstrated troubleshooting capability will also be considered.\nThe expected salary range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000 per year. The starting salary will be determined based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Base pay is one component of Black & McDonald’s total rewards package.
