No two days are the same.\nKo mātou tēnei | This is Us\nThis is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Automation Tester to join our Customer 360 team and help lead new work as the team builds integrations with BNZ's various banking platforms.\nAt BNZ, we're transforming how we serve our customers through modern, connected technology that makes banking simpler, faster, and more reliable. As part of the Customer360 programme, our Integrations connect Salesforce/nCino with core systems, data platforms, banker and customer channels across the bank.\nThis is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in either Wellington or Auckland, with a hybrid working approach of three days in the office and two days working flexibly.\nMō te Tūranga | About the Role\nWhat are 5 day to day tasks the person in this tūranga will complete?\nTechnical expertise: Create automation test frameworks, prepare automation test scripts, execute and maintain them, and report and track defects through to closure. \nStrategic thinking: Designing scalable automation frameworks, implementing shift-left testing, and ensuring high test coverage. \nProblem solving: Handle flaky tests, debug efficiently, and optimise test execution for faster feedback. \nLeadership and collaboration: Mentor junior team members, collaborate with engineers, and improve automation strategies so they align with business goals. \nBusiness impact: Reduce manual effort, improve release cycle quality, and track key metrics such as defect leakage and automation ROI. \nWhat technical skills and attributes would be advantageous in this role?\nWe are looking for a Senior Automation Tester with strong experience writing, maintaining and debugging automation tests, ideally with 6-8+ years’ experience in complex environments.\nThe role requires hands-on experience designing and building test automation frameworks for both UI and API testing. Candidates should have experience with UI automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO, and API automation tools such as Rest-Assured, Karate, Postman/Newman, or similar frameworks.\nYou will also bring:\nStrong experience in test automation frameworks for APIs. \nExperience with integration automation test frameworks in CI/CD pipelines. \nExperience in banking or financial services, with strong analysis and problem-solving skills. \nExperience applying risk-based testing practices to prioritise coverage across critical integrations, customer journeys, and high-impact change. \nStrong communication and interpersonal skills. \nStrong Java coding skills in automation testing; experience with Java microservices would be a bonus. \nExperience with AI-assisted development workflows and agentic tooling as part of day-to-day engineering practice. \nWhat attributes will this person display to be successful in this role?\nProactive, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of critical systems and outcomes. \nAble to lift engineering quality across the team by setting higher standards and bringing others along through mentorship and practical example. \nCalm and methodical in production support, with the ability to work through complex issues and balance immediate response with longer-term improvement. \nCollaborative and communicative, with the ability to build strong working relationships across engineering, delivery, risk, vendor, and business stakeholders. \nCurious, pragmatic, and focused on continuous improvement, leaving systems in a better state through disciplined operational practice, thoughtful engineering, and strong follow-through. \nWhat is the team culture and environment like?\nOur team culture is highly collaborative-we believe in delivering as a team, supporting one another to achieve our goals together.
