Bring yours to Block.\nThe Role\nEmployee Experience Engineering (EXE) is part of Block's Corporate Engineering organization, responsible for building and operating the engineering platforms, services, and integrations that improve the employee experience. Our work supports the employee journey from hiring and onboarding through ongoing access to corporate services. We develop internal applications, automate employee workflows, and integrate enterprise systems to deliver seamless, reliable, and scalable experiences. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, building reliable systems, and developing thoughtful solutions that make employees' lives easier.\nYou Will\nDesign, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable internal applications, platforms, and backend services.\nDevelop features and automated workflows that improve the employee experience across hiring, onboarding, and ongoing access to corporate services.\nBuild and maintain APIs and integrations connecting internal platforms, enterprise applications, and third-party services.\nOwn software solutions end-to-end, from technical design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support.\nCollaborate with Product, Design, Corporate Engineering, People Technology, Security, and other cross-functional teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.\nProvide technical leadership through architecture discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering best practices.\nImprove application performance, reliability, observability, and maintainability.\nContribute to technical roadmaps, architectural decisions, and long-term platform improvements.\nExplore emerging technologies, including AI-powered capabilities, to improve employee workflows and engineering productivity.\nYou Have\n8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production applications.\nStrong full-stack development experience, including modern frontend and backend technologies.\nExperience with React, Ruby on Rails, or comparable frameworks.\nExperience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful APIs and backend services.\nExperience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.\nStrong understanding of software architecture, system design, data structures, and engineering fundamentals.\nExperience with distributed systems, service reliability, and observability.\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production monitoring.\nAbility to independently drive complex technical projects and collaborate across engineering teams.\nStrong communication skills, customer empathy, and a passion for delivering excellent employee experiences.\nNice to Have\nExperience building internal enterprise applications or employee-facing platforms.\nExperience integrating HR, identity, access management, or other enterprise systems.\nFamiliarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.\nExperience with authentication, authorization, and secure API integrations.\nExperience automating employee lifecycle workflows, including hiring, onboarding, and access provisioning.\nExperience with AI-assisted development or integrating AI capabilities into applications.\nExperience improving developer productivity, engineering workflows, or internal platforms.\nWhy Join EXE?\nYou'll have the opportunity to build software that directly improves how employees experience Block, from their first interaction with the company through their everyday work.
