Senior Data Management Professional - Data Engineer - BNEF Data, Tokyo

The Role:

As a Data Engineer on the BNEF Data Team, you'll help expand Bloomberg's renewable energy databases and deliver industry-leading data products. You'll design and optimize data models, automated pipelines, workflows, and data quality frameworks that power our products at scale. Working at the intersection of technology and the energy transition, you'll drive automation, improve operational efficiency, and influence best practices for data lifecycle management. Success in this role requires deep technical expertise, energy domain knowledge, and the ability to partner effectively with Engineering, Product, and Commercial teams to deliver innovative solutions for our clients.

You'll collaborate with colleagues across Bloomberg's global Data and BloombergNEF Product teams in Princeton, New York, London, and Asia to shape the future of our data offerings.

We'll trust you to:

• Design, build, and automate scalable workflows and data pipelines supporting data acquisition, quality control, and operational processes
• Apply statistical methods, programming, machine learning, and automation technologies to improve data quality, generate insights, and enhance efficiency
• Lead incident and problem management, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, remediation, and preventative solutions
• Partner with Engineering, Product, and Commercial teams to develop, enhance, and integrate data products and workflows
• Identify and implement process improvements through automation and workflow optimization, reducing manual effort and increasing scalability
• Translate stakeholder and customer feedback into data strategies, product enhancements, and execution roadmaps
• Monitor industry, market, and dataset developments, make data-driven decisions, and communicate project and operational outcomes through metrics and reporting

You'll need to have:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, STEM, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• 3-5 years of experience in data management, with a track record of improving data quality, accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness
• Strong data analysis and profiling skills using Python, SQL, Excel, and modern data processing technologies
• Experience with analytics and visualization tools such as Qlik Sense, Tableau, or Splunk
• Experience in data modeling, semantic data structures, or knowledge graph concepts
• Proven project management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and drive workflow, process, and operational improvements through automation, AI/LLM solutions, and scalable technologies
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills in English, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams and with clients
• Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization

We'd love to see:

• Experience with the Bloomberg Terminal or Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification
• Knowledge of renewable energy or a related industry, with a strong interest in data and the energy transition
• Proficiency in Chinese or another Asian language to support multilingual data coverage
