In this vital role, you will be responsible for working in the toner process department with assignments to evaluate, troubleshoot, and design modifications to improve the performance of manufacturing equipment. Provide leadership to complete individual and team projects.

Requirements

  • Responsibilities:
    • Lead projects from start to completion including, prepare overall project schedule, estimate total project cost, calculate ROI or benefits, planning, RFQ, quotes, installation, evaluate vendor quality, vendor management, trials, pre-mass, turn over, and final document preparation.
    • Investigate and recommend equipment modifications to improve production efficiency, performance and reliability.
    • Design and fabricate or organize for external fabrication of new and replacement parts.
    • Creating 2D & 3D mechanical and layout drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
    • Support and perform Kaizen improvement activities as a mechanical engineer in Toner process manufacturing.
    • Hands on troubleshooting of routine to complex manufacturing equipment problems, determine root cause of failures/problems and implement countermeasures.
    • Provide hands on troubleshooting assistance to maintenance and production when needed.
    • Support the sustainment of existing production lines using the ECR-ECO process to implement improvements.
    • Quickly respond to and provide solutions to ergonomic and safety related issues.
    • Assist with plant utilities, compressed air, chilled water and process water. Calculate flow, pressure and demand requirements.
    • Create and modify troubleshooting, start-up, equipment setup documents and other procedures.
    • Create and modify preventive maintenance documents. Prepare schedules for Preventive maintenance as per manufacturing company’s equipment manuals.
    • Prepare and present reports with detailed root cause analysis and data.
    • Prepare and present reports to get approval for projects and modifications.
    • Prepare training materials to train production and maintenance personnel on the usage and maintenance of equipment.

  • Responsibilities
    • Model the "safety first" behaviors we expect of all employees by ensuring that operational procedures, equipment, and processes are designed to provide a safe work environment.
    • Spend the majority of your time (50%+) on the production floor, collaborating daily with operators and maintenance technicians to observe equipment in operation, gather firsthand input, and implement improvements at the point of use. → Q1
    • Troubleshoot a variety of routine to moderately complex production equipment problems. Investigate and determine the root cause of failures and recommend countermeasures. → Q2
    • Design, fabricate, and modify machines, parts, jigs, and fixtures to support new equipment installations, line changes, and continuous improvement projects. → Q2
    • Plan, coordinate, and execute production trials. Define trial conditions, work with production and quality to run them, evaluate the results, and translate findings into process or equipment changes. → Q3
    • Develop equipment layout designs for new installations and line reconfigurations, accounting for material flow, operator access, maintenance clearance, and safety requirements. → Q4
    • Define and specify plant utilities requirements - compressed air, dryers, chilled water, and process water - for new and modified equipment, and coordinate with facilities on capacity and distribution. → Q4
    • Perform capacity studies to establish line and equipment throughput, identify bottlenecks, and support production planning and capital investment decisions. → Q5
    • Produce 2D and 3D mechanical drawings in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks for fabrication, installation, and documentation. → Q6
    • Lead engineering projects end-to-end, from concept through startup - defining scope, managing budget and timeline, aligning stakeholders across production, maintenance, quality, and facilities, and demonstrating return on investment. → Q7
    • Manage equipment installation and construction activities, including developing contractor work scopes, coordinating on-site contractor work, and verifying completion against specification.
    • Analyze and identify modifications that can be made to improve equipment performance, reliability, and yield.
    • Conduct research, compile data, and apply statistical analysis to evaluate process performance and support engineering decisions.
    • Create, write, and modify troubleshooting, start-up, preventive maintenance, and technician qualification procedures. Develop implementation and preventive maintenance schedules.
    • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to production leadership and management, primarily using MS PowerPoint.
    • Prepare training materials and train production and maintenance personnel on the usage and maintenance of equipment.
  • Required Qualifications
    • Hands-on role spending 50%+ of time on the production floor, collaborating daily with operators and maintenance.
    • Hands-on equipment troubleshooting and machine fabrication experience.
    • Production trial experience.
    • Experience with equipment layout design and plant utilities requirements.
    • Experience performing capacity studies.
    • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks for 2D & 3D mechanical drawing.
    • Able to manage engineering projects end-to-end, including scope, budget, timeline, stakeholders, and ROI.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field.
    • Hands-on experience with equipment installation, contractor work scope, and construction management.
    • Powder handling industry experience.
    • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills, including presentation skills utilizing MS PowerPoint.
    • Strong math, statistical analysis, problem-solving, and research skills.
    • Intermediate skills in Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
