This role prepares Mine designs, schedules, production plans, and engineering analyses while monitoring execution and responding to changing underground conditions.\nWorking closely with Mine Operations, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Maintenance, Projects, Survey, and Health and Safety, the Underground Mine Engineer helps ensure that mine plans are safe, practical, and aligned with production objectives. The role combines office-based engineering with regular underground field involvement.\nKey Responsibilities\nUnderground Mine Planning & Design\nDevelop short- and medium-range underground mine plans, designs, schedules, and production forecasts.\nPrepare development layouts, access designs, production sequences, and related underground infrastructure plans.\nIncorporate geological, geotechnical, ventilation, equipment, and operational requirements into mine designs.\nWaste rock planning and backfill management\nOperational Engineering Support\nProvide daily technical support to underground Operations and assist with the execution of approved mine plans.\nMonitor development and production performance against plan and investigate schedule, productivity, and cost variances.\nConduct regular underground inspections to verify conditions, progress, and alignment with engineering designs.\nDrill, Blast & Ground Support\nSupport the preparation and optimization of development and production drilling and blasting designs.\nCoordinate with Geotechnical Engineering and Operations regarding ground-support requirements and changing ground conditions.\nReview blast results, excavation performance, overbreak, dilution, and other operating outcomes to identify improvements.\nTechnical Analysis & Reporting\nComplete engineering analyses involving development rates, production capacity, equipment requirements, material movement, and mine infrastructure.\nMaintain accurate mine-planning records, production data, drawings, schedules, and technical reports.\nSupport reconciliation between planned and actual development, production, tonnage, grade, and costs.\nHealth, Safety & Compliance\nIncorporate health, safety, environmental, geotechnical, ventilation, and regulatory requirements into mine plans and designs.\nParticipate in risk assessments, workplace inspections, design reviews, incident investigations, and change-management processes.\nIdentify and communicate underground hazards, planning constraints, and conditions requiring corrective action.\nCollaboration & Continuous Improvement\nCoordinate mine-planning requirements with Operations, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Survey, Maintenance, Projects, and Health and Safety.\nCommunicate plans, priorities, technical requirements, and schedule changes to affected stakeholders, ensuring where required collaboration and communication with the corporate mining team.\nIdentify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, development performance, resource recovery, and operating efficiency.\nQualifications & Experience\nBachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline\nProfessional Engineer licensure in the applicable state, or eligibility to obtain the appropriate designation, is preferred\nMinimum 3 years’ underground mine-engineering experience.\nExperience with underground mine planning, design, scheduling, and operational support.\nFamiliarity with underground development, production drilling and blasting, ground support, ventilation, and mine infrastructure.\nExperience interpreting geological, survey, and geotechnical information.\nExperience using mine-planning and design software.\nValid driver’s license and ability to meet all site-access and underground-work requirements.\nSkills & Competencies\nStrong knowledge of underground mine-planning, design, and production principles.\nAbility to prepare practical mine designs and schedules that reflect field conditions and operational requirements.\nProficiency with relevant mine-planning, design, scheduling, and data-analysis software.\nStrong analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities.\nAbility to interpret mine plans, survey information, geological models, and geotechnical data.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to manage competing priorities and work effectively with technical and involve exposure to confined work areas, uneven ground, dust, noise, mobile equipment, reduced lighting, and varying underground conditions.\nRequired personal protective equipment must be worn in
