This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the Hypergol Thruster Experiment (HyTEX) Test Operations team at our Van Horn, TX facility. This leader will build and lead a high-performing test operations and emergency management team responsible for safe and repeatable testing of rocket engines and systems using hypergolic propellants. You will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of test preparation, implementation, and emergency response capabilities while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and mission success.\nThis role requires outstanding technical expertise in leading hazardous substances activities. It also demands shown people leadership and skills to build systems and processes enabling elite test operations. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.\nResponsibilities\nLead, develop, and mentor a team of test engineers and technicians supporting hypergolic propellant test operations\nSet goals for team members that align with organizational objectives and individual career aspirations\nFoster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence\nLead all aspects of test planning, execution, and post-test analysis for hypergolic rocket engine and component testing\nEnsure compliance with all safety protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements for hazardous materials operations\nLead emergency response planning and team readiness for HAZMAT incidents\nDevelop and lead budgets, schedules, and resource allocation for test operations\nMake sound decisions on technical approaches, risk trade-offs, and resource investments\nServe as a member of the site HAZMAT emergency response and rescue leadership team\nPerform work while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and other required PPE\nSuccessfully complete annual medical examination and annual physical fitness/job-related capability assessment\nPerform physically demanding tasks including lifting or pulling up to 200 pounds crawling, bending, running, kneeling, and climbing on and off equipment\nPerform strenuous work under conditions that may include fire, heat, smoke, variable weather, confined spaces, heights, loud noise, and other hazardous situations\nSubject to random drug testing due to the safety-critical nature of the position\nQualifications\nB.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field from an accredited university\n10+ years of experience in test operations, propulsion systems, or a similar area\n5+ years of people management experience leading technical teams\nDeep technical knowledge of rocket propulsion systems and test operations\nDemonstrated experience with the coordination of hazardous material activities and safety management\nStrong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills\nConsistent track record of building high-performing teams and getting results\nExperience making sound decisions under pressure and managing contending priorities\nAbility to make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations while maintaining emotional stability and composure under stress\nAbility to pass a pre-employment medical physical and physical ability/fitness assessment\nAbility to obtain Hazardous Materials Technician certification within 3 months of hire (meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(q) Technician level training requirements)\nMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum\nDesired\nM.S. or Ph.D. in engineering or related field\n15+ years of experience in rocket propulsion test operations\nExperience with hypergolic propellants (NTO, MMH, hydrazine, or similar)\nExperience managing emergency response teams or serving as incident commander\n5+ years of experience in emergency response (fire, HAZMAT, industrial emergency response, or equivalent)\nDemonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with SCBA and supplied-air respirator (SAR) systems\nCompletion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training\nCurrent Hazardous Materials Technician certification (24 hr HAZWOPER)\nCompletion of FEMA/NIMS courses: IS-700, IS-800, ICS-100, ICS-200\nExperience with Process Safety Management (PSM) and covered commodities\nKnowledge of ASME B31.3 and other relevant codes and standards\nExperience with test facility development, construction, and activation\nCulture Statement\nDon’t meet all desired requirements?
