We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!\nThis role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we’re developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin’s mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.Senior Software Development Engineer\nThe Applications team administers Jira, Confluence, and a portfolio of enterprise applications used by everyone at Blue Origin. When the entire company plans work and shares knowledge, it runs on the platforms this team owns. Today, much of the team's operational work arrives as manual tickets - provisioning, configuration changes, access requests, and routine maintenance handled one at a time by engineers.\nWe are hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to change that. Your charter is to systematically eliminate manual ticket work by building automation and self-service tooling that lets users help themselves. You will design and ship the software that turns a reactive, ticket-driven workflow into a scalable, self-service platform. AI is a core tool in how you work; you will leverage AI-assisted development to accelerate how you build, test, and deliver.\nThis is a high-leverage role: every workflow you automate gives time back to both the team and the hundreds of engineers who currently wait on manual fulfillment.\nOur tech stack at a glance:\nAmazon Web Services\nAtlassian (Jira, Confluence, REST APIs)\nDocker / Kubernetes\nTerraform\nDatadog\nLinux\nPython, Go, Groovy\nAI/LLM tools (Claude, Codex, etc.)\nWhat makes our engineering team successful?\nA relentless bias toward automation; if it can be self-service, it should be\nTechnical breadth and depth with a strong understanding of emerging trends, including AI-assisted development\nOwnership mentality: you build it, you run it, you improve it\nA \"customer first\" mindset, recognizing that your customers are fellow engineers waiting on manual work that should not require a ticket\nHigh judgment with technical design decisions and the ability to balance competing priorities\nThe ability to build consensus across teams, champion ideas through to adoption, and lead without authority\nComfort operating at the senior level: leading designs, mentoring others, and driving decisions without close oversight\nResponsibilities include but are not limited to:\nIdentify, design, and build automation and self-service tooling that eliminates manual ticket-driven work across the team's application portfolio\nOwn the full lifecycle of the software you build, from design through production operation\nActively balance technical debt against feature delivery across multiple systems\nDesign and build integrations between enterprise applications (Jira, Confluence, and adjacent systems)\nPartner with the team's infrastructure engineers to ensure automation is reliable, secure, and well-architected\nLead technical design efforts, mentor teammates, and review the work of others for quality and correctness\nCollaborate with internal customers to understand pain points, gather requirements, and validate that self-service solutions meet their needs\nEstablish patterns and frameworks that make it easy for the team to build future automation consistently\nMinimum Qualifications:\n7+ years of professional software development experience\nStrong proficiency in Python, Go, Groovy, or comparable languages\nProven track record of building automation or self-service tooling that measurably reduced manual operational work (not theoretical; demonstrated delivery)\nExperience designing and building integrations or internal tooling\nExperience with REST APIs and system-to-system integration patterns\nExperience building automations and workflows within Jira using ScriptRunner, native automation, or Atlassian REST APIs\nSolid understanding of AWS or comparable cloud platforms\nDemonstrated ability to lead technical design efforts and mentor other engineers\nStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to work through ambiguous requirements and deliver practical solutions\nAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our company culture.\nMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience building self-service platforms or portals for internal users\nExperience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Codex, etc.) in day-to-day workflows\nExperience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)\nExperience with containerized workloads (Docker, Kubernetes)\nTrack record of measurably reducing operational toil through automation\nExperience with authentication and authorization workflows between systems (OIDC, SAML, OAuth)\nFamiliarity with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar)\nFamiliarity with federal compliance frameworks (CMMC, NIST) and building automation that supports compliance requirements\nWe are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!\nBase Pay Range for:\nWA applicants is $197,529.00 - $276,539.55Other site ranges may differ\nCulture Statement\nDon’t meet all desired requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building an authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every desired qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.\nExport Control Regulations\nApplicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.\nBackground Check\nRequired for all positions: Blue’s Standard Background Check\nRequired for Certain Job Profiles: Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation\nRequired for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.\nRequired for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical\nBenefits\nBenefits include: Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.\nStock Options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week)\nPaid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.\nDependent on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on the company's intent to reward individual contributions and enable them to share in the company's results, or other factors at the company's sole discretion.
