Our team is designing and building autonomous and highly producible ships that can serve multiple missions on the open ocean.\n Role Summary\nWe’re seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support electronics packaging and structural design across our vehicle power system. You will work at the intersection of mechanical design, electrical integration, and manufacturing-helping take hardware from early layouts through detailed design, release, build, and test. The work emphasizes robust packaging for harsh environments (thermal, vibration, shock, EMI/EMC constraints), along with practical, producible structural design.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign and iterate electronics packaging: structural frames, enclosures, trays, brackets, stiffeners, mounts, cable/connector access, and serviceability features.\nPartner with EE teams to define mechanical interfaces for PCBs, harnessing, connectors, and LRU-style modules; maintain ICDs and drawing packages.\nPerform first-order thermal and structural assessments (load paths, stiffness, margin checks) and support deeper analysis as needed.\nProduce detailed CAD, drawings, and release packages (BOMs, tolerances, notes, finish/corrosion requirements) and support manufacturing through build.\nSupport integration: fit checks, bench bring-up, vibration/handling events, and design updates based on test findings.\nContribute to lightweight, repeatable engineering processes: checklists, standards, and design reviews that keep us moving fast while staying rigorous.\nWho You Are\nBS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)\nAbility to size structural components with solid first principles understanding of load path\nComfortable in CAD and producing drawings for fabrication and assembly.\nFamiliar with electronics packaging constraints (mounting, cooling, vibration/shock, grounding/EMI considerations, connector/harness strain relief).\nPractical problem solver who enjoys being close to hardware (lab, integration bay, shipboard environment).\nClear communicator who collaborates across mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing stakeholders.\nNice to Haves\nExposure to structural analysis methods, GD&T, environmental qualification (vibe/thermal), and/or configuration control practices common in aerospace programs.\nFamiliarity with materials/finishes for marine or outdoor environments.\n\nWhat We Offer\nIncredibly high-caliber teammates. You’ll work directly with our co-founders Rylan, Scott, and Austin. \nA fast-paced, creative working environment that offers a lot of room for ownership and growth.\nOpportunity to join a meaningful mission that protects American and our Democracy.\nSalary Range: $77,000 - $100,000 annual base salary (final compensation will depend on experience and skill level\nStartup equity options\nGenerous PTO, medical, dental, and free vision coverage.\nMust be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities. By applying, you confirm that you are a U.S. Person and can provide acceptable documentation verifying your status if selected.\nBlue Water Autonomy is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. All employment decisions-including recruitment, hiring, promotion, compensation, benefits, and termination-are made based on qualifications, merit, and business need.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3706,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Marine & Ocean Engineering"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-25T15:36:06Z"}],"liveness":{"score":3,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.108,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":209,"expected_fill_days":17,"reasons":["conf:0","win:tail","crowd:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":100000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/blue-water-autonomy-mechanical-engineer-i-electrical-packaging-structures","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/blue-water-autonomy-mechanical-engineer-i-electrical-packaging-structures.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T20:41:25Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":3164,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":1836,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
