Our modelling work connects these worlds, from heat flow in a dilution refrigerator to the behaviour of a single qubit.\nWe are looking for a Trainee for Cryogenic and Quantum Modelling to join our Quantum and Measurement Team. In this role, you’ll help develop theoretical and numerical models that link the thermal, mechanical, and quantum aspects of our systems. Your work will support customer projects, research and development, and Bluefors’ scientific publications.\nThis is a 12-month fixed-term trainee position.\nWe’re looking for someone with strong foundations in physics and numerical methods, real depth in at least one of our modelling areas, and the curiosity to learn the others. Our working environment is multicultural and leaves room to grow, so you can use your full potential and keep developing your skills.\nMain responsibilities:\nHelp develop theoretical and numerical models that connect three areas:\nThermal modelling of dilution refrigerators, from heat loads to helium mixture behaviour at millikelvin temperatures\n\nMechanical and thermal integration of control components for quantum computing (e.g., wiring, filters and amplifiers)\n\nHamiltonian and open quantum system descriptions of how the cryogenic environment and control hardware affect qubit operation\n\nRun simulations that support customer projects and business operations\n\nUse your modelling work to support research and development (R&D) projects\n\nContribute to scientific publications that Bluefors authors\n\nWhat we expect from you\nOngoing or recently completed studies in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or another relevant field\n\nA solid foundation in physics\n\nExperience with numerical methods, especially solving partial differential equations (PDEs)\n\nProgramming skills in Python and experience with Git\n\nStrength in at least one of the following areas:\nHeat transfer and thermal simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), or cryogenic or low-temperature physics\n\nMultiphysics and finite element modelling\n\nOpen quantum systems, or tools such as QuTip (Quantum Toolbox in Python) or Sc qubits\n\nExcellent scientific writing skills in English\n\nWe also appreciate\nAn existing publication record\n\nExperience with Julia\n\nCircuit simulation with SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) or Qucs (Quite Universal Circuit Simulator)\n\nMachine learning applied to scientific problems, such as surrogate models or data-driven simulation\n\nGood practices in software testing and documentation\n\nExperience with computing infrastructure, such as GPU (graphics processing unit) workstations\n\nA public GitHub or GitLab repository showing numerical modelling or scientific software\n\nPlease apply as soon as possible, on November 12, 2026, at the latest through our recruitment system at BLUEFORS.COM.
