Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

We are a dynamic team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

Blue Origin is seeking a self-driven Electrical Design Engineer II to support launch vehicle ground test and integration operations. This is a hands-on design role where speed, technical ownership, and comfort with ambiguity are essential.

You will translate loosely defined test requirements into fully released harness designs owing the full lifecycle from requirements capture and connector selection through routing, drawing creation, design review, and PDM release. You'll work directly with test engineers who define what needs to be tested and rely on you to determine how to connect it. Turnaround times are aggressive; quality expectations are rigorous but calibrated to a test environment, not flight production.

What You'll Do

  • Own requirements collection - extract and baseline harness requirements from test plans, block diagrams, and verbal inputs
  • Identify and resolve definition gaps before they become design problems
  • Design cable harnesses for ground test applications: vehicle-to-ground interfaces, EGSE connections, instrumentation, and power/signal distribution
  • Select and specify connector systems, contacts, backshells, and wire/cable types
  • Develop and release harness drawings (schematics, wire lists, assembly and installation drawings) in Creo and AutoCAD Electrical within Windchill PDM
  • Apply proper shielding and grounding/bonding practices per applicable standards
  • Lead design reviews and coordinate with test, avionics, manufacturing, and quality teams
  • Support fabrication by guiding technicians, resolving discrepancies, and issuing redlines
  • Coordinate with procurement on component sourcing and lead times
  • Support test execution including harness installation, continuity/IR verification, and troubleshooting

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in:
  • Cable harness design: schematics, wire lists, connector selection, assembly drawings
  • Procurement support and vendor coordination
  • Fabrication oversight and/or hands-on fabrication
  • Harness acceptance testing (continuity, IR, hi-pot)
  • Exposure to large-scale cable installations including routing, raceway planning, and installation sequencing
  • Proficiency designing and documenting harnessing with 2D drafting tools (AutoCAD, Draftsight or equivalent)
  • Strong communication skills; ability to translate technical discussions into documented requirements
  • Ability to lead design reviews and coordinate across cross-functional teams
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of connector families (MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-26482, D-Sub, RF/coax), contact handling, backshell selection
  • Knowledge of cable shield grounding/bonding methods and standards (MIL-STD-464, MIL-HDBK-1857)
  • Proficiency in Creo Parametric, Windchill PDM, and AutoCAD Electrical
  • 5-8+ years of harness and electrical design experience with a track record of independently owning designs from concept through release
  • Experience on launch vehicle, spacecraft, or aircraft integration and test programs
  • EGSE design experience: test/checkout boxes, breakout and interface panels, vehicle-to-ground umbilical interfaces, signal conditioning and power distribution hardware
  • Familiarity with NASA-STD-8739.4, MIL-HDBK-522, AS50881, and IPC/WHMA-A-620
  • Experience with instrumentation harnesses (pressure transducers, thermocouples, strain gauges, accelerometers)
  • Knowledge of aerospace wire specs (MIL-W-22759, MIL-C-27500) and ability to select appropriate wire for a given application
  • Familiarity with test vs. flight hardware documentation distinctions
  • Experience with facility power and grounding in test stand or launch site environments
  • Exposure to EPLAN, Capital Harness, or similar EDA tools
