Electrical Engineering Team Leader

The Opportunity

Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for an Electrical Engineering Team Leader to join our Springhill Engineering team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

In this role, you will lead and develop a team of electrical and automation engineers while providing technical leadership across plant support, engineering design and capital projects. You will oversee engineering activities involving new and existing equipment, with a focus on safety, reliability, automation, energy efficiency and continuous improvement.

Working in a supportive operational environment, you’ll help improve the safety of our people, the quality of our products and the reliability of our equipment.

What Will You Do?

You’ll lead and develop a team of electrical and automation engineers while ensuring engineering and project deliverables are completed safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality. You will:

• lead, support and develop the Springhill electrical and automation engineering team
• provide technical leadership across electrical design, automation, project engineering and project management
• support maintenance, operations and other engineering disciplines to deliver solutions that maintain a safe and reliable plant
• oversee the design development process and ensure engineering solutions comply with applicable codes, standards and statutory requirements
• lead the development and delivery of capital projects
• provide technical input into equipment procurement, upgrades and asset replacement decisions
• work with suppliers, industry specialists, technical teams and plant stakeholders to resolve technical issues
• identify and implement practical improvements to plant safety, reliability, performance and energy efficiency
• manage priorities across plant support, improvement work and capital projects

More About You

You’re an experienced electrical or automation engineer who can provide sound technical leadership while supporting and developing others. You are comfortable working in an operational environment and can balance immediate plant requirements with longer-term engineering and asset improvement priorities.

You will also bring:

• a tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
• a strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others
• experience in a manufacturing, heavy industry, operational, process or technical environment
• experience leading or developing engineers and technical professionals
• sound knowledge of electrical engineering design, automation systems and project delivery
• the ability to apply sound judgement, set priorities and resolve problems efficiently
• strong communication skills and the ability to build constructive working relationships
• a practical, hands-on approach to engineering and plant support
• a proactive approach to improving performance, delivery and work practices
