The Opportunity

Our Novar Gardens team at Lysaght is looking for a Maintenance Fitter to join a close-knit maintenance team supporting a busy manufacturing operation. Made in Australia since 1921, Lysaght manufactures steel building products used across Australian homes and major commercial and industrial projects.

This is a hands-on role that combines preventative maintenance, breakdown response, equipment upgrades and capital project work across a diverse range of manufacturing equipment. Working alongside fitters, electricians and operations personnel, you'll help maintain the safety, reliability and performance of our site while contributing to ongoing improvements and new equipment installations.

The roster for this role will be discussed during the recruitment process and may include either day shift (6:30am-2:30pm) or afternoon shift (2:30pm-10:30pm) arrangements depending on operational requirements. Afternoon shift arrangements attract applicable shift allowances. There are regular opportunities to increase your earnings through planned overtime, including weekday maintenance activities and occasional Saturday work. Importantly, there is no formal on-call roster associated with this position.

What Will You Do?

Working across planned maintenance, breakdown response and continuous improvement activities, you will:

  • interact with maintenance management systems and record completed work
  • assess job risks and implement appropriate control measures through JSEAs and permit systems
  • isolate equipment and carry out corrective maintenance activities
  • inspect equipment, identify faults and complete repairs
  • respond to machinery breakdowns and troubleshoot equipment issues
  • contribute to shutdown planning and maintenance activities
  • support machinery upgrades, equipment improvements and capital projects
  • identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance performance

More About You

You are a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter or Fitter & Turner who enjoys a varied role and can work both independently and as part of a team. You’ll bring:

  • experience maintaining manufacturing, processing or production equipment
  • strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting capability with a proactive approach to problem solving
  • experience carrying out both preventative and breakdown maintenance
  • an understanding of safe work practices, permits and maintenance compliance requirements
  • experience using maintenance management systems and basic computer applications
  • strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across maintenance and operations teams
  • a commitment to your own safety and wellbeing and the safety of those around you

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, machining or trade-related licences such as a forklift or EWP licence would be advantageous. More importantly, you're a capable maintenance fitter with strong fault-finding skills, a safe approach to work and a willingness to learn. Where required, we'll support the successful candidate with training and development.

Why Join Our Team:

At Novar Gardens, you'll work in a team where your contribution is valued and where you'll have the opportunity to build your skills across maintenance, equipment upgrades and capital projects.

In this role you'll enjoy:

  • a mix of planned maintenance, breakdown response, machinery upgrades and project work
  • opportunities to increase your earnings through overtime and applicable shift allowances
  • planned overtime that is typically communicated in advance with no formal on-call roster
  • modern equipment, ongoing site investment and a strong focus on safety, quality and teamwork
  • ongoing training and development opportunities
  • access to BlueScope's health, wellbeing, learning and employee benefits programs
