You’ll sit down with the operators who use DoD mission systems every day, turn what they tell you into clear, testable requirements, and write the test procedures that operators and developers use to verify each release. Just as important, you’ll explain why a request should or shouldn’t be built, and stand behind that recommendation. Our purpose is singular - to optimize warfighter performance\nthrough information technology.\nWe hire for talent and drive over years on a résumé. Strong recent graduates are encouraged to apply.\nYou have…\nA clear, structured voice. You can walk someone through a problem - the situation, the options you weighed, what you decided, and the result so operators, engineers, and leaders follow it the first time.\nA curious mind. You want to understand how a system is really used, not just how it was designed.\nA good ear and good judgment. You listen for what operators need versus what they ask for, weigh it against technical constraints and the backlog, and can tell a customer “not now” while pointing them to a better path.\nAn ownership mindset. When something is blocked, you go find the person who can unblock it instead of waiting.\nA dedication to detail. A vague requirement becomes a bug or a dispute later, so you pin it down now.\nA focus on the craft. You want to go deep in systems engineering and software requirements, test, and how software actually gets built.\nAn open mind. You welcome feedback on your work and want to grow as an engineer.\nWe have…\nA devotion to making technology work for the warfighter. We help operators work faster, better, and smarter.\nAn affinity to action. We’d rather start, learn, and iterate than wait for the perfect plan.\nA drive for continuous improvement. We look for better ways to solve old problems, for our customers and ourselves.\nSenior engineers who mentor. You’ll learn requirements and test practice alongside experienced test leads and SMEs.\nWhat you’ll do…\nRequirements elicitation and decomposition\nRun discovery with operators, subject matter experts, and government leads, through interviews, site visits, and demos, to understand mission workflows, pain points, and what would make a capability acceptable to them.\nDecompose customer-expressed and contract requirements into clear, atomic, testable requirements, breaking large asks into smaller parts that can be weighed against effort to implement.\nTrace requirements across subsystems and interfaces (APIs, data exchanges, connected systems) and assess the ripple effect of each change.\nCapture non-functional requirements (the “-ilities”): performance, reliability, security, and operation in degraded or disconnected (DDIL) conditions.\nMaintain requirements traceability from source (operator input, PWS, user stories) through design and test.\nOperator input and prioritization\nCapture every operator or customer request as a data point: log it in the backlog, link it to existing requirements, and track it to a decision.\nWeigh requests against mission value, technical constraints, and the existing backlog; recommend build, defer, or decline, and explain why.\nReconcile conflicting inputs from different operators or stakeholders and bring a recommended resolution to the team.\nClose the loop with operators on what was decided and when.\nDocumentation\nDocument requirements, use cases, and operational workflows in formats operators and developers both understand.\nWrite user stories with measurable acceptance criteria, including Given-When-Then (Gherkin) scenarios.\nUse quick prototypes or mockups (including AI-assisted ones) to confirm intent with operators and show developers the target outcome, without dictating how they build it.\nProduce supporting artifacts: workflow and system diagrams, Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM) minutes, and test reports.\nTest planning and execution\nWrite step-by-step test procedures and scripts that operators and developers can follow to verify functionality.\nExecute and support functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for software releases.\nRecord results, log defects with clear reproduction steps, and verify fixes.\nHelp automate repeatable testing: write simple scripts for test data and log checks, turn manual procedures into automated test cases and BDD step definitions, and add them to the GitLab CI/CD pipeline with the test lead.\nContribute to functional security test cases (authentication, access control) under the guidance of the test lead.\nCollaboration\nWork alongside developers, test leads, cybersecurity staff, and program management in an Agile environment.\nCoordinate across multiple organizations and drive communication plans that keep responses and deliverables on schedule.\nParticipate in sprint planning, TEMs, and customer reviews; brief findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.\nHelp developers reproduce and isolate defects by reading logs and tracing system behavior to narrow the root cause.\nContribute technical writing to proposals as opportunities arise.\nRequirements\n0-4 years of experience in systems engineering, requirements analysis, software testing, or quality assurance. Internships, co-ops, and capstone projects count.\nHands-on work on a software project (professional, academic, or personal) where you can clearly describe the product, the team’s roles, and your part in it.\nExperience gathering requirements from end users or stakeholders and writing them as clear, testable. statements with measurable acceptance criteria.\nExperience writing test cases or test procedures and executing functional or regression testing.\nBasic debugging skills: reproducing an issue, reading logs or error output, and narrowing down the cause.\nBasic scripting in at least one language (e.g., Python, Bash, JavaScript) to automate repetitive tasks such as\ntest data setup or log parsing.\nFamiliarity with the software development lifecycle, Agile/Scrum, and a backlog or defect-tracking tool (e.g., Jira, GitLab Issues, Azure DevOps).\nStrong, structured written and verbal communication; able to explain a recommendation and the tradeoffs behind it.\nBachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field; or equivalent experience (e.g., military operator or technical background).\nU.S. citizenship and an active DoD SECRET clearance, or the ability to obtain one.\nAbility to work hybrid across BluestoneLogic HQ, DISA at Fort Meade, MD, and remote.\nPreferred qualifications\nDon’t disqualify yourself if you don’t have these. We come from varied backgrounds, and many of us started without these preferred qualifications.\nProgram and system experience\nExposure to command and control, situational awareness, logistics, or customer resource management\nsystems.\nFamiliarity with commercial C2 platforms such as Palantir Maven Smart System or Anduril.\nPrior work supporting DISA, a Combatant Command, or another DoD program office.\nTools and methods\nExposure to test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Robot Framework, JUnit), including writing test scripts, or BDD tools (Cucumber, SpecFlow, Behave), including writing the step definitions behind Gherkin scenarios.\nFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines, especially GitLab CI/CD, including adding automated tests to a pipeline.\nBasic API testing experience (e.g., Postman, REST APIs), including writing automated API test cases.\nFamiliarity with DoDAF architecture views (e.g., OV-1, SV-1) or SysML/MBSE tools. MIL-STD\ndocumentation, technical data packages (TDPs), or engineering change proposals (ECPs) are a good\nfoundation.\nFamiliarity with security testing concepts.\nExperience with virtualization, containers (e.g., Docker), or cloud environments, and with deployment automation scripts (e.g., Bash, Ansible) for installs, updates, and rollbacks.\nExperience working on classified networks (e.g., SIPRNet). BluestoneLogic, LLC · Systems Engineer / Test Engineer (Junior-Mid) Page 4\nCertifications such as ISTQB Foundation, INCOSE ASEP, or CompTIA Security+.\nAlso valued\nCoursework or applied work in systems architecture methods, such as design structure matrices (DSM) or tradespace and trade studies.\nProgramming experience beyond scripting (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, SQL), plus the judgment to use existing tools, APIs, and open-source components before writing custom code.\nExperience using AI tools to accelerate customer research or prototype a capability.\nExperience as a product owner or analyst managing a backlog for real users.\nExperience supporting proposals or writing technical volumes.","description_format":"text","description_chars":8737,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Civil & Structural Engineering","Engineering Services"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-30T00:54:13Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":4,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:3","win:early","comp:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-11-03T05:54:40Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/bluestonelogic-systems-engineer-test-engineer-junior-mid","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/bluestonelogic-systems-engineer-test-engineer-junior-mid.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-03T12:42:37Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":17561,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-04T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":669966},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=669966"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fbluestonelogic-systems-engineer-test-engineer-junior-mid"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fbluestonelogic-systems-engineer-test-engineer-junior-mid"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fbluestonelogic-systems-engineer-test-engineer-junior-mid"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/bluestonelogic-systems-engineer-test-engineer-junior-mid\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fbluestonelogic-systems-engineer-test-engineer-junior-mid"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3494459}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"bluestonelogic.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3494459},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
