Learn more about BMT at www.bmt.org.\nKey Responsibilities\nThe Senior Naval Architect - Submarine Structures is responsible for professionally and efficiently executing work in support of client taskings for submarines. \n General:\nProvide Naval Architecture advice and support to external and internal customers. \nManage your own technical work and evaluate its effectiveness to improve best practice. \nWork collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. \nComply with relevant business and ethics codes of conduct. \nUndertake engineering and non-engineering activities in a way that contributes to best practice \nAct as Technical Lead (TL) on specified projects. \nAct as Technical Assurer on specified projects. \nAct as Project Manager (PM) on specified projects. \nWork within the BMT Quality Management System (QMS) processes and procedures. \nMaintain your technical competency in your area(s) of specialization. \nPromotes building a positive team culture through input, feedback and participation in team building and wellness activities. \nRole Specific:\n Proven ability to lead and conduct submarine structural calculations for existing platforms and/or new builds. \nProvide an expert opinion on design and fitness for service of submarine structures including: \nSubmarine pressure hull, \nSubmarine pressure hull structural features, and \nPrimary and secondary submarine structures. \nExperienced in working with Shipyards, Dockyards, Owners, Class and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to conduct ship surveys for design and engineering changes, mid-life upgrades and vessel condition documentation. \nKnowledge of domain specific standards including International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, Class Society rules, Transport Canada Regulations and Canadian Forces Technical Orders. \nMaintain a program of Continuing Professional Development to sustain your technical knowledge. \nWork with Capability Manager to identify the levels of suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) required to fulfil current and projected demand. \nWork with Capability Manager to identify training or other developmental opportunities to develop SQEP within BMT. \nSkills, Knowledge & Expertise\nEssential:\nDegree in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture; \nMinimum 15 years of experience in Naval Architecture; \nExtensive experience working on new build or re-fit of existing submarines. \nExisting registration or ability to obtain registration with Professional Engineering governance body in Province of work; and, \nEligible for a Canadian and International security clearance. \nHold a valid passport and able to travel internationally on a minimum of a 3-month deployment. \n Desirable:\nDetailed knowledge and experience in the following areas: \nShip or submarine hydrostatics including stability, weight control and margins; and \nShip or submarine inclining experiments (submerged and surfaced); \nExperience in the in-service support of naval systems and/or engineering design; \nExperience in the development and use of technical studies and drawings; \nAn understanding of specifications for government and commercial vessels; \nExperience in systems integration, ship construction and/or repair; \nWhy Work for Us?\nAt BMT we believe in hiring the best talent, from diverse backgrounds, as this introduces new ideas to the team and our customers.
