Learn more about BMT at www.bmt.org.\nKey Responsibilities\nThe Senior Submarine Structures Specialist is responsible for professionally and efficiently conducting structural assessments and providing technical advice to overseas and domestic submarine programs. This role may also support surface ship and other engineering programs as required.\nThis role includes recurring long-term deployments (at least 3 months at a time within a 12-month period) at one of our overseas client sites, providing specialist technical advice, working alongside our team of technical specialists. Deployments may include holiday periods.\nDeployed periods benefit from substantial tax-free allowances.\nRole Specific Responsibilities\nLeading and conducting submarine structural calculations for existing platforms and/or new builds \nProviding expert opinion on design and fitness for service of submarine structures including: \nSubmarine pressure hull design philosophy \nSubmarine pressure hull structural features \nPrimary and secondary submarine structures \nWorking with shipyards, dockyards, owners, class and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM)\nConducting ship surveys for design and engineering changes, mid-life upgrades and vessel condition documentation \nWorking with leadership to identify the levels of suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) required to fulfil current and projected demand \nWorking with leadership to identify training or other developmental opportunities to develop SQEP within BMT \nWorking overseas for a minimum period of 3 months in a 12-month period \n General Responsibilities\nProvide advice and support to external and internal customers \nManage your own technical work and evaluate its effectiveness to improve best practice \nWork collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team \nComply with relevant business and ethics codes of conduct \nUndertake engineering and non-engineering activities in a way that contributes to best practice \nAct as Technical Lead (TL) on specified projects \nAct as Technical Assurer on specified projects \nWork within the BMT Quality Management System (QMS) processes and procedures \nMaintain your technical competency in your area(s) of specialization \nPromotes building a positive team culture through input, feedback and participation in team building and wellness activities \nSkills, Knowledge & Expertise\nEssential\nDegree or Technologist Diploma in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture \nMinimum 12 years of experience working in the domain of submarine structures \nExtensive experience working on new build or re-fit of existing submarines, including proven experience of: \nSubmarine pressure hull design philosophy \nSubmarine pressure hull structural features \nPrimary and secondary submarine structures \nExperience in the development, use and review of technical studies and drawings \nAn understanding of specifications for submarines and surface vessels \nAbility to work collaboratively and supportively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders \nEligible for a Canadian security clearance \nAble to travel internationally on a minimum of a 3-month deployment \n Desirable:\nExperience conducting ship or submarine hydrostatics calculations including stability, weight control and margins \nExperience conducting/participating in ship or submarine inclining experiments \nKnowledge of domain-specific standards including International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, Class Society rules, Transport Canada Regulations and Canadian Forces Technical Orders \nExperience in the in-service support of naval systems and/or engineering design \nExperience in systems integration, ship construction and/or repair \nExisting registration or ability to obtain registration with Professional Engineering governance body in Province of work or equivalent technologist certification \nWhy Work for Us?\nAt BMT we believe in hiring the best talent, from diverse backgrounds, as this introduces new ideas to the team and our customers.
