You’ll oversee safety program execution, serious incident response and investigations, regulatory compliance, workers’ compensation and risk management, and the continued development of our safety organization.

This role reports to the Corporate Director of Environmental Health & Safety and works in close partnership with the President of the Western Region and regional operations leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Regional Safety Director, you will:

  • Provide strategic and operational safety leadership across multiple projects and locations, aligning regional safety priorities with company objectives and project execution.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Area Safety Managers, Project Safety Managers, Project Safety Specialists, and other assigned safety professionals while establishing clear expectations and accountability for performance.
  • Partner with regional and project leadership to integrate safety into business planning, project planning, execution, operational reviews, and day-to-day activities.
  • Ensure consistent implementation and execution of company safety programs, policies, standards, procedures, and initiatives throughout the region.
  • Maintain a visible field presence through regular project visits and engagement with project teams, field leadership, and employees.
  • Provide guidance on complex safety challenges and significant operational risks, helping project teams identify, evaluate, and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor audits, observations, incident data, leading and lagging indicators, and other performance measures to identify trends and areas of exposure, and drive action plans to improve regional safety performance.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for serious and high-potential incidents, including response coordination, investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and communication of lessons learned.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, federal, state, and local regulations, company standards, and client-specific requirements, and provide leadership during regulatory inspections, inquiries, and enforcement actions.
  • Partner with Human Resources, Risk Management, Legal, and Operations on workers’ compensation, return-to-work, claims management, loss mitigation, and other safety-related matters.
  • Support the recruiting, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, development, and retention of regional safety personnel.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regional operations leadership, clients, owner representatives, contractors, trade partners, insurance representatives, and other key stakeholders.
  • Represent safety leadership in client meetings, project pursuits, presentations, interviews, and other business development activities as needed.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, trust, field engagement, learning, and continuous improvement throughout regional operations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification and OSHA 500 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction required; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive safety experience within industrial construction, heavy construction, or a similar high-hazard construction environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety across multiple projects, jobsites, or geographic locations, including leading, mentoring, and developing safety managers and other safety professionals
  • Experience leading or overseeing serious incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and communication of lessons learned
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards, regulatory requirements, risk management practices, workers’ compensation, claims management, and injury prevention
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence operational leaders, project teams, clients, and employees at all levels of the organization
