This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA\nIn this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:\nEnsure optimal database performance and scalability by conducting regular performance assessments and implementing necessary improvements\nCollaborate with software development teams to integrate database solutions seamlessly into applications, ensuring data integrity and security\nLead initiatives to enhance database automation and streamline processes, supporting BNY's commitment to innovation and operational excellence\nWork closely with source system owners, reporting teams, and data consumers to gather requirements and translate them into scalable database solutions.\nUnderstand end-to-end data flows, key entities, attributes, and relationships across upstream and downstream systems.\nConvert analytical and reporting needs into logical and physical data models.\nCreate and maintain model documentation (ERDs, entity/attribute definitions, mapping specs, naming standards).\nDevelop and optimize database objects such as tables, views, indexes, materialized views, sequences, stored procedures/functions, and packages.\nApply performance tuning techniques (SQL tuning, indexing strategy, partitioning, query plans) to ensure efficient processing at scale.\nImplement validation checks, reconciliation logic, and exception handling to detect and resolve data issues.\nEnforce standards for data definitions and ensure consistency across environments (e.g., dev/qa/prod, multiple platforms).\nMaintain data dictionaries, reference/master data rules, and metadata needed for governance and traceability.\nPromote standard naming conventions, code sets, and reusable patterns.\nBuild/maintain database-side ETL logic and scheduling dependencies where applicable.\nMonitor loads, troubleshoot failures, analyze root cause, and implement corrective actions.\nIdentify opportunities to improve data sharing and reduce duplicated data transformations across teams.\nContribute to data stewardship practices: definitions, ownership, access controls, and auditability.\nRecommend long-term fixes for recurring data defects and performance bottlenecks.\nSupport changes through impact analysis, backward/forward compatibility planning, and controlled deployments\nTo be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field\n5+ years of experience with Oracle and exposure to Snowflake (or similar cloud data platforms)\nPL/SQL development and advanced SQL skills\nStrong data engineering capability with real-world, production-grade delivery experience\nExperience with AI Agentic Workflows and Automation.\nHands-on ability to build scalable workflows using Unix, PL/SQL, and Python\nExperience building and optimizing batch pipelines running in Unix/Linux environments\nAbility to write complex, performance-tuned SQL (execution plans, indexing awareness, tuning approach)\nPractical experience with ETL (extraction, transformation, load, controls, audit, restartability)\nProven ability to handle large datasets with strong focus on data quality, reconciliation, and reliability\nStrong troubleshooting skills for batch failures, data issues, and performance bottlenecks\nComfortable working with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions\nFollows coding standards, best practices, and maintains documentation\nStrong scripting knowledge: Shell scripting + good Unix command-line understanding\n Must have RESTful web service experience.\nUnderstand microservices based, scalable architecture (previous experience working with Kafka).\nExperience implementing caching (using Hazelcast/ Redis) will be a plus.\nStrong experience in SDLC, DevOps processes - CI/CD tools, Git, etc.\nShould be capable to look into the production issue by checking code & Splunk logs \nMust have: AI exposure, ETL tool , GitLab CI/CD, and JIRA experience\nNice to have - Financial Services experience : Securities, Corporate Actions, Pricing, Transactions, Fund Accounting, Eagle suite of products\nAt BNY, our culture speaks for itself, check out the latest BNY news at:\nBNY Newsroom\nBNY LinkedIn\n\nHere’s a few of our recent awards:\nAmerica’s Most Innovative Companies, Fortune, 2025\nWorld’s Most Admired Companies, Fortune 2025\n“Most Just Companies”, Just Capital and CNBC, 2025\nOur Benefits and Rewards\nBNY offers highly competitive compensation, benefits, and wellbeing programs rooted in a strong culture of excellence and our pay-for-performance philosophy. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $83,000 and $195,000 per year at the commencement of employment.
