By integrating expertise across architecture, engineering, construction, and facility management, we deliver holistic, end-to-end solutions that drive efficiency and deliver distinctive outcomes.\nPosition Summary\nThis position is for a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and execution of complex mechanical systems for our extensive portfolio of projects. In this role, you will be the senior technical anchor for high-performance buildings, ensuring that advanced HVAC, plumbing, and specialty systems align with the project’s required design standards. This requires deep knowledge in LEED certification, Green Globes Certification, Federal Sustainability Plan or Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings with the ability and experience to complete the certification process. You will be responsible for spearheading sustainable design strategies, energy modeling, and driving projects through the USGBC certification pipeline.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nThe following inexhaustive list of duties represents a sample of work routinely performed by this role:\nDesign & Engineering\nLead the engineering of complex mechanical components and systems including central boiler and chiller plants, hydronic distribution and pumping systems, Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems and Water Source Heat Pumps, ensuring technical integrity and adherence to Bodwe and client design standards. \nLead the engineering of complex plumbing and domestic water systems, as well as specialty systems such as medical gas distribution for healthcare environments. \nProvide technical expertise and guidance to the design team on complex engineering challenges. \nReview design drawings and calculations to ensure quality. This includes doing full project quality control (QC). \nDevelop basis-of-design narratives, schematics/risers, equipment selections, controls sequences, and performance criteria aligned with code requirements and owner goals. \nDevelop comprehensive construction documents, technical specifications (using SpecsIntact/Speclink), and detailed engineering reports. \nSupport construction administration (RFIs, submittals, site observations), resolving field issues while maintaining design intent. \nSustainable Design\nLead the LEED certification process from conceptual design through construction administration, ensuring all credits are accurately tracked, documented, and achieved. \nPerform comprehensive building energy modeling, lifecycle cost analyses (LCCA), and high-performance building simulations to optimize energy efficiency. \nInterpret and apply federal energy regulations, including ASHRAE 90.1, and specific sustainability design manuals. \n\nProject Management\nOversee and manage internal project timelines, and resources. \nCollaborate with cross-functional teams (architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and other project consultants) to ensure project success. \nCommunicate project status updates to interested parties and management. \nNavigate client criteria, submittal processes and reviews\nEducation, Experience, and Technical Skills\nRequired Education, Experience, and Technical Skills\nBachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. \nProfessional Engineering License (with the ability to obtain reciprocity in target states) \n10+ years of extensive experience in MEP design of chillers, boilers, VAV/VRF/WSHP systems. \nLEED certification with a proven track record of successfully certifying completed projects. \nStrong understanding of ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1, NFPA 99, IMC, IPC, IFGC and other applicable codes. \nDemonstrated expertise designing systems for complex institutional and healthcare facilities involving prescriptive technical standards and structured review processes. \nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal parties. \nProficiency in relevant design software and project management tools. This includes Revit, HAP, Trace 3D plus and Bluebeam. \nProficiency in Office 365 Suite of products such as Teams/SharePoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook. \nMust have or be able to obtain and maintain a Real ID or Passport in order to undergo commercial airfare travel \nMust have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license \nPreferred Education, Experience, and Technical Skills\nMaster of science degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or related field \nProject Management Professional Certification. \nPrevious leadership experience such as mentoring staff and managing, directing, and overseeing the work of others. \nDirect, verifiable experience managing design-bid-build or design-build projects. \nPay and Benefits\nWhen determining compensation, Bodwé considers job-related factors such as the scope and complexity of the position; the candidate’s education, experience, skills, technical expertise, professional licensure, and certifications; work location; internal equity; and market data.
