Our Advanced Process team is vertically integrating those challenging processes: metal and ceramic additive, investment casting, heat treatment, materials testing, and everything in between. We need a generalist technician who can work hand-in-hand with our engineers to turn ideas into real parts, fast.\nNot a single-process operator\nMost technician jobs put you on one machine, running one qualified process, all day. You get very good at one thing, and the interesting decisions get made without you.\nThis is not that job.\nAs an Advanced Manufacturing Technician you'll work across the AM lab, The Pit (our Overture landing-gear test site turned AM/Casting R&D lab), heat treatment, casting, the M&P lab, coatings and more - wherever the team needs hands to turn a concept into data, hardware, and insights. One week you're running a ceramic build; the next you're pouring a casting, prepping a sample, or setting up a heat-treat cycle. The processes often don't exist yet - you'll help invent them, break them, fix them, and write them down. Finding yet another way not to make the lightbulb is part of the job; getting the real part in hand is the reward.\nWhat you'll do\nFabricate, build, and finish real parts across many processes - additive (metal, ceramic, polymer), investment casting, heat treatment, and general shop and lab work.\nWork directly with Advanced Process engineers to take rough concepts and get hardware in hand fast - then iterate.\nSet up and run development trials, capture what happened, and feed results back so the process gets better.\nHandle the materials safely and cleanly - powder, wax, ceramic, hot metal, chemicals - with a relentless focus on safety.\nPerform routine cleaning, first-line maintenance, and troubleshooting on the equipment you run.\nHelp build out and organize the labs and shop areas: tooling, consumables, workflow, and the work instructions the team will run on.\nThis job is demanding\nThe process you need often won't exist yet - you'll help invent it, and most of what you try won't work the first time. The domains are broad and you'll be learning constantly. The parts you make go into real engines, so your safety discipline, craft, and documentation have to be absolute. If a build looks off, we need to know that more than we need it to look finished.\nYou probably have\nHands-on fabrication or lab experience across more than one domain - machining/finishing, welding/brazing, additive, casting, composites, heat treat, assembly, or materials-lab work.\nA track record of teaching yourself new machines and processes.\nThe ability to read engineering drawings and CAD, and connect design intent to how a part gets built.\nSolid documentation habits and the ability to communicate clearly with engineers about what you tried and saw.\nComfort in a fast-paced, ambiguous R&D environment where the procedure is still being written - and resilience when things fail.\nIt would be great if you have\nExperience in aerospace, defense, medical, or another high-performance environment.\nAdditive manufacturing experience (metal LPBF, SLA, ceramic, or polymer).\nInvestment casting, wax/ceramic, or foundry experience.\nHeat treatment, furnace operation, or metallography / materials-lab experience.\nExperience helping stand up or organize a new lab or shop area.\nWhy Boom\nBoom's Advanced Process team is where the hardest, most novel parts of the engine get figured out. Actual rate will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees.
