This is a senior individual contributor role, so you’ll lead through technical expertise, clear decision-making and mentorship rather than formal line management.\nIt’s a great opportunity to shape platform direction, solve meaningful infrastructure challenges and make a visible impact on services that support patients and customers. We place so much value on our Technology team - if you want to build a career that will keep developing with your skills, there’s no better place to do it.\nKey responsibilities:\nTake technical ownership of complex AWS infrastructure across the Boots Online Doctor platform, including Elastic Beanstalk, ECS Fargate, Lambda, EC2, RDS Aurora MySQL, DynamoDB, Redshift and CloudFront.\nLead the design and improvement of scalable, resilient and secure cloud architectures aligned to the AWS Well-Architected Framework.\nOwn and improve Infrastructure as Code standards and governance across Terraform and CloudFormation, including consistency, module design, state management and drift detection.\nArchitect, maintain and continually improve CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub Actions, helping engineering teams release reliably and efficiently.\nBuild automation and tooling that reduces manual operational work, improves deployment quality and removes recurring toil.\nLead cloud security and compliance improvements across IAM, VPC configuration, security groups, routing and AWS Shield Advanced.\nDrive remediation from AWS Well-Architected reviews and security improvement programmes, with a strong focus on protecting patient and customer data.\nDesign and improve monitoring, alerting, incident response and runbooks using Amazon CloudWatch and complementary tooling.\nLead investigation and resolution of complex production incidents, including root cause analysis and preventative actions to reduce MTTD and MTTR.\nProvide technical mentorship, code reviews and day-to-day guidance to DevOps Engineers, supporting onboarding and capability growth across the team.\nWhat you'll need to have (our must-haves):\nSignificant hands-on experience in a senior DevOps, cloud engineering or platform engineering role within a production AWS environment.\nDeep AWS cloud architecture experience, with confidence designing highly available, fault-tolerant and scalable platforms.\nStrong hands-on experience with core AWS services such as EC2, S3, Elastic Beanstalk, ECS Fargate, Lambda, RDS Aurora MySQL, DynamoDB, CloudFront, Redshift and VPC.\nExpert-level CI/CD experience using Jenkins and GitHub Actions at enterprise scale.\nStrong Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform and CloudFormation across multiple environments.\nAdvanced scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash or similar languages.\nStrong understanding of AWS networking and security, including IAM, least privilege, VPC design, subnet architecture, routing and security groups.\nExperience designing or improving monitoring and observability using CloudWatch and related tooling.\nPractical experience leading incident response, root cause analysis and service reliability improvements in a high-availability environment.\nStrong communication skills, with the confidence to explain technical recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nWillingness to support with the teams on-call rota, in which you will remain contactable, respond to incidents within agreed service timescales and receive an on-call allowance for each period on duty. \nIt would be great if you also have:\nExperience working in a regulated environment, ideally healthcare, pharmaceuticals or another setting where data protection, governance and auditability really matter.\nAWS certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional.\nPractical experience applying the AWS Well-Architected Framework in production environments.\nExperience with AWS Shield Advanced and wider AWS security services.\nFamiliarity with Redshift, DMS, Looker, Stripe, Braze or Salesforce Marketing Cloud integrations.\nExperience improving cloud cost efficiency without compromising resilience, security or service quality.\nWhere your brilliance can take you:\nThis role can be a strong next step towards broader cloud architecture, platform engineering leadership or senior technical leadership within Cloud Engineering.
