Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall technical design and requirement decomposition of frameless torque motors, including electromagnetic topology, pole-slot combination, winding configuration, magnetic circuit, and material selection.
- Conduct electromagnetic simulation and multi-objective optimization, balancing peak/continuous torque, efficiency, cogging torque, torque ripple, back EMF, field-weakening capability, cost, and manufacturability.
- Lead motor thermal design and continuous-output capability assessment. Develop electromagnetic-thermal-structural coupled models and drive optimization of heat dissipation paths within the joint module.
- Define technical requirements for the stator, rotor, permanent magnets, windings, insulation, potting, and assembly interfaces, supporting integrated design with the gearbox, encoder, brake, motor drive, and housing.
- Develop DV/PV validation plans for prototypes and lead performance mapping, temperature-rise, NVH, overload, durability, environmental, and reliability testing. Drive root-cause analysis and issue closure.
- Drive motor platform development, product family development, and design standardization. Establish design guidelines, calculation templates, technical databases, DFMEA, and engineering knowledge repositories.
- Collaborate with suppliers, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality teams on process reviews, DFM optimization, cost analysis, critical-characteristic control, and mass production launch.
- Track technology trends in robotic joint motors and identify opportunities in high torque density, advanced winding technologies, magnetic circuit innovation, materials, and cooling technologies, supporting patent development and technology roadmap planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Motor Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related discipline. Master’s degree or above is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in permanent magnet synchronous motor development. Experience with frameless torque motors, robotic joints, collaborative robots, servo actuators, or compact electric drive systems is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of PMSM electromagnetic design principles, with the ability to independently perform parameter calculations, concept design, simulation and optimization, prototype commissioning, and test-result analysis.
- Proficiency in at least one mainstream electromagnetic or thermal simulation tool, such as Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, JMAG, or Flux. Experience with MATLAB/Simulink is also required.
- Good understanding of FOC, SVPWM, current/speed/position closed-loop control, and encoder fundamentals, with the ability to work with drive and control teams on electromechanical matching and system commissioning.
- Solid knowledge of motor materials, winding and insulation systems, permanent magnets, protection methods, potting, assembly, and manufacturing processes, with strong awareness of tolerance management, reliability, and failure analysis.
- Strong structured problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, and technical communication skills. Able to read technical documentation in English and handle routine written communication in English.
