We are seeking an experienced System Engineer to join our global infrastructure team responsible for our enterprise compute and virtualization platform, spanning Linux Server environments (Ubuntu, RHEL), VMware vSphere / vSAN clusters, enterprise storage solutions, and cutting-edge x86 physical infrastructure.

In this role, you will be a key expert responsible for the stability, performance, security, and evolution of our mission-critical server environments. You will design, implement, automate, and operate integrated hardware, virtualization, and OS solutions across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas. Your Mission: What You'll Be Doing

• Operate & Evolve Global Virtualization: Manage, operate, and further develop our large and complex environment, vSAN clusters, vCenter as part of our global 3rd-level engineering team.
• Manage Linux at Scale: Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise Linux operating systems (Ubuntu/Debian and Red Hat Enterprise Linux) across thousands of physical and virtual servers.
• Drive Automation & Infrastructure as Code: Develop Ansible playbooks/roles, write scripts, and streamline CI/CD pipelines to automate recurring operational tasks, system deployments, hardening, and capacity management.
• Oversee x86 Hardware Standards & Lifecycle: Manage, evaluate, and maintain the x86 server hardware portfolio and shopping basket (compute nodes, blade systems, rack servers). Collaborate with procurement, vendors, and suppliers (e.g., HPE) to ensure timely availability, evaluation of new technologies, and firmware lifecycle management.
• Administer Enterprise Storage & vSAN: Design, maintain, and optimize software-defined storage (vSAN) and enterprise storage integrations (SAN/NAS, block/file storage), ensuring high availability, performance, and optimal capacity utilization.
• Solve Complex 3rd-Level Issues: Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, performing root cause analysis across hardware, hypervisor, OS, and storage layers, collaborating closely with vendor support when required.
• Security & System Hardening: Implement industry-standard security hardening, integrate Linux with identity providers (AD, PAM,Kerberos), and proactively address vulnerability scans, audit findings, and risk mitigations.
• Monitoring & Observability: Optimize and expand infrastructure monitoring (Grafana, Nagios, Icinga) to maintain complete visibility into physical hardware, hypervisor health, and OS-level performance.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert: Provide technical consultancy and architecture recommendations to internal project teams and application owners with specialized compute, storage, or virtualization requirements.

What You Bring to the Table:

We are looking for a versatile infrastructure engineer with deep technical knowledge across the entire compute stack - from physical silicon and enterprise storage to hypervisors and Linux operating systems combined with a strong drive for automation and continuous improvement.

Core Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Virtualization & Storage:
  • Strong hands-on experience administering large-scale VMware vSphere and vCenter environments.
  • Solid working knowledge of software-defined storage (VMware vSAN) and enterprise storage concepts (SAN, NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI).
  • Experience with monitoring and capacity management tools
• Operating Systems (Linux):
  • In-depth engineering experience with enterprise Linux distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu/Debian).
  • Solid understanding of core networking, OS storage management (LVM, multipathing), and directory integration (Kerberos, Active Directory, PAM).
• x86 Hardware & Systems:
  • Practical technical knowledge of x86 enterprise server hardware architecture, remote management tools (e.g., HPE iLO / OneView), diagnostics, and hardware lifecycle management.
• Automation & Scripting:
  • Practical experience automating infrastructure using Ansible (Ansible Automation Platform), shell scripting (Bash), or Python.
• Problem Solving & Teamwork:
  • Proven analytical thinking, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, distributed global team.
• Languages: Fluent English (written and spoken) is required.

Advantageous / Preferred:

• VMware certifications (e.g., VCP, VCAP - VMware Certified Advanced Professional) or Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE).
• Vendor-specific x86 hardware certifications or specialized experience with HPE server platforms.
• Familiarity with enterprise patch management tools (e.g., Red Hat Satellite, SUSE Manager, BigFix).
• Understanding of Agile, ITIL, DevOps, and SRE methodologies.
