You will set the technical direction for the materials development roadmap, build and mentor a team of chemists and materials engineers, and own the path from new concept to a material that is qualified with customers and ready to transfer to manufacturing.\nThis is a player-coach role. You will spend real time in the lab and in the data - interface chemistry, formulation, characterization, and reliability testing - while managing priorities, people, and timelines across multiple programs. You will work closely with our NPI, Advanced Manufacturing, Applications, and Commercial teams to make sure what we develop can be built at scale and solves the thermal problems our customers in AI and datacenter hardware face today.\nThe ideal candidate combines deep materials expertise with a record of turning research into products and is energized by building a team in a fast-moving startup.\nYour Responsibilities\nLead, hire, and develop a team of chemists, materials engineers, and lab technicians; set clear goals, give regular feedback, and grow individual careers. \nProvide hands-on technical leadership in liquid metal and composite TIM development, including organic/inorganic interface engineering, formulation, and surface chemistry. \nEstablish rigorous experimental practices: design of experiments, data management, and standardized characterization and reliability test methods (e.g., thermal impedance, pump-out, thermal cycling, HAST). \nDefine and own the TIM materials development roadmap in partnership with company leadership, aligning technical priorities with customer needs and business goals. \nPlan, prioritize, and manage R&D programs, including scope, timelines, resources, and stage-gate decisions. \nPartner with NPI and process engineering to transfer new materials from the lab to pilot and high-volume production, with clear specifications and process windows. \nWork with Applications and Commercial teams to understand customer requirements, support sampling and qualification, and resolve technical issues in the field. \nBuild and protect intellectual property by identifying inventions and working with counsel on patent filings. \nManage lab resources, including equipment purchases, budgets, and outside partners such as universities, test labs, and suppliers. \nCommunicate progress, risks, and results to leadership, customers, and partners through clear reports and presentations. \nChampion a culture of safety, scientific rigor, and continuous improvement in the lab. \nYour Required Skills and Expertise\nPh.D. in Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, or an M.S. with equivalent industry experience. \n8+ years of materials R&D experience, including at least 3 years leading technical teams or programs with direct reports. \nProven track record of taking new materials from concept through scale-up and customer qualification. \nDeep expertise in at least one relevant area: thermal interface materials, liquid metals and alloys, composites, interfacial or surface chemistry, or electronic packaging materials. \nStrong command of materials characterization methods (e.g., SEM/EDS, XRD, rheology, DSC/TGA, thermal conductivity and impedance measurement) and statistical design of experiments. \nExperience managing R&D roadmaps, budgets, and timelines across multiple concurrent projects. \nExcellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present technical work to executives and customers. \nYour Preferred Qualifications\nExperience developing materials for the semiconductor, electronics packaging, or datacenter industries. \nFamiliarity with reliability standards and qualification practices used by semiconductor and electronics customers (e.g., JEDEC). \nExperience transferring processes from R&D to manufacturing and working within quality systems. \nA record of patents and/or peer-reviewed publications. \nPrior experience in a startup or early-stage company. \nSummary of Benefits\nHealth, Vision & Dental - Boston Materials pays 75% of Health, Vision and Dental Care coverage for employee and dependents \nUnlimited Paid Time Off \nHolidays: 14 days/year","description_format":"text","description_chars":4327,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":8,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"phd","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Energy Storage","Advanced Materials"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-23T23:11:38Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":60,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.602,"p_room":1,"age_days":3,"expected_fill_days":32,"reasons":["conf:1","stale_co","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-27T05:46:45Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":210000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/boston-materials-advanced-energy-transfer-materials-materials-development-manager","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/boston-materials-advanced-energy-transfer-materials-materials-development-manager.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-27T06:37:21Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":6869,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-28T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":1898440},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=1898440"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fboston-materials-advanced-energy-transfer-materials-materials-development-manager"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fboston-materials-advanced-energy-transfer-materials-materials-development-manager"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fboston-materials-advanced-energy-transfer-materials-materials-development-manager"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/boston-materials-advanced-energy-transfer-materials-materials-development-manager\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fboston-materials-advanced-energy-transfer-materials-materials-development-manager"}]}
