Boulder partners with leading health plans, employers, and community organizations to ensure that our services are accessible and covered for the people who need them most.\nNamed by Fortune as one of the Best Workplaces in Healthcare, we foster a culture of kindness, respect, and meaningful work that delivers outstanding patient outcomes and moves the addiction medicine industry forward.\nKey responsibilities\nData Modeling & Pipeline DevelopmentOperate across the data stack to build, manage, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion to reporting.\nDevelop, test, and maintain robust, production-grade data models and schemas in BigQuery using dbt, ensuring clean lineage and optimized performance.\nCollaborate with the Principal Data Engineer to implement and refine efficient ETL/ELT workflows, balancing infrastructure scalability with analytical agility.\nConfigure and manage data ingestion pipelines using Fivetran to integrate new operational, financial, and clinical data sources.\n\n Stakeholder Partnership & Analytical TranslationServe as a primary partner to clinical, operations, finance, and growth teams, translating ambiguous business requests into structured, actionable data projects.\nConfidently and clearly communicate data insights, technical constraints, and data definitions to both technical and non-technical leaders.\nDesign and maintain semantic layers and scalable reporting structures within Looker (LookML) to enable self-service analytics across the organization.\n\nTeam Mentorship & Capability BuildingAct as a technical mentor and escalation point for data analysts, building their capabilities across SQL, dbt, and advanced analytical workflows.\nEstablish best practices for code reviews, version control, and testing within the analytics team to foster a high-performance engineering culture.\nBridge the gap between raw data engineering and downstream analysis, ensuring analysts have the well-structured datasets they need to succeed.\n\n Data Quality, Governance & DocumentationImplement robust data validation, testing (e.g., dbt tests), and monitoring to ensure the highest integrity and completeness of upstream and downstream data.\nCollaborate with data leadership to define and enforce data standards, metrics definitions, and single-source-of-truth architectures.\nMaintain comprehensive documentation of data models, definitions, and governance policies to ensure institutional knowledge is transparent and accessible.\n\nContinuous Improvement & Startup AgilityThrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment by proactively identifying data gaps, bottlenecks, and optimization opportunities across the pipeline.\nMaintain a bias for action, comfortably wearing multiple hats-from infrastructure tuning to deep-dive business analysis-to drive organizational momentum.\n\nWhat you bring\n6+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data analysis, data engineering, or related full-stack data roles.\nPrior experience working in a fast-paced startup environment, with a proven ability to operate autonomously and navigate ambiguity.\nAdvanced proficiency in SQL and deep, hands-on experience building scalable data models with dbt.\nStrong experience managing and optimizing cloud data warehouses, specifically BigQuery.\nProven track record with Fivetran (or similar ingestion tools) and business intelligence platforms, specifically Looker/LookML development.\nExcellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to turn business requirements into technical execution.\nFamiliarity with data governance, version control (Git), and an understanding of handling sensitive data within a secure, compliant environment (e.g., HIPAA).\nComfortable working alongside a dedicated Principal Data Engineer, with enough technical depth to collaborate on infrastructure while maintaining a strong focus on business application and analysis.\nExperience partnering with Marketing or Growth teams to build the data foundations and analytics needed to understand acquisition, attribution, funnel performance, conversion, and growth opportunities is strongly preferred.\nIntegrity, strategic thinking, and professionalism that reflect Boulder Care's values.\nNice to have, but not required\nExperience in healthcare data analytics (e.g., working with EHRs, claims data, or clinical workflows).\nFamiliarity with Substance Use Disorder and/or other stigmatized populations.\nDemonstrated proficiency using AI tools to enhance productivity, analytical workflows, and technical development.\nWork environment\nThis is a fully remote role, but we are currently only hiring candidates located in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, KY, MA, MI, MN, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, WA, and WV.
