We are seeking a Senior Facade Engineer to join our Design & Engineering team at Bovis Construction (Europe) Limited. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in driving effective project solutions, ensuring compliance, and managing technical risks. The Senior Façade Engineer will act as a specialist technical adviser on building envelope and façade matters, supporting projects from preconstruction and design through procurement, construction, testing, handover and, where required, post-completion investigation. The role will provide informed technical leadership and independent challenge to project teams, designers, specialist subcontractors and suppliers to help ensure façade solutions are safe, compliant, coordinated, buildable, durable and capable of achieving the required performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist façade engineering advice to project, design, commercial, procurement and construction teams.
  • Review façade design proposals, calculations, specifications, drawings and technical submissions and provide appropriate technical challenge.
  • Assess the suitability of proposed façade systems, materials and interfaces against project performance requirements.
  • Identify significant façade technical risks and support project teams in developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Provide façade engineering input during tender and preconstruction stages.
  • Review Employer's Requirements, specifications, architectural and engineering information, and proposed façade strategies.
  • Identify key façade risks, opportunities, constraints and technical qualifications.
  • Assist in establishing appropriate façade performance requirements and scopes of work.
  • Support the technical assessment of façade contractors, suppliers and proposed systems.
  • Support project teams in coordinating façade design with architecture, structure, fire, building services, waterproofing and internal finishes.
  • Support resolution of complex technical issues through evidence-based engineering judgement.
  • Support project teams in understanding and demonstrating compliance with applicable Building Regulations, standards and project requirements relevant to façades.
  • Contribute specialist knowledge to projects subject to the Building Safety Act and Building Safety Regulator processes where applicable.
  • Promote appropriate design verification and maintenance of clear technical records and decision trails.
  • Help ensure that material and system changes are properly assessed for their impact upon façade performance and compliance.
  • Recognise the limits of personal competence and seek additional specialist advice where required.
  • Provide technical support to site teams during façade testing, manufacture and installation.
  • Support the development of inspection and test plans and project-specific quality controls.
  • Review significant installation defects and non-conformances and advise on technically appropriate corrective actions.
  • Advise on façade mock-ups, sampling, benchmarking and testing strategies.
  • Witness or review relevant laboratory and site testing where appropriate including assisting in interpreting test failures and developing technically justified remedial proposals.
  • Capture and communicate façade lessons learned across projects.
  • Maintain awareness of developments in façade technology, regulation, standards and industry guidance.
  • Coach and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and project staff.
  • Maintain appropriate Continuing Professional Development.
