This is meant to empower our software and platform engineers while allowing them to learn and develop themselves.\nLet me tell you about the role\nThe Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for engineering, enhancing, and operating bp’s AWS Platform, ensuring it remains secure, reliable, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with bp’s cloud strategy.\nWorking as a senior member of the AWS Platform Engineering team, this role delivers the technical capabilities that enable application teams across bp to consume AWS safely and efficiently. The role focuses on building reusable platform capabilities, improving existing services, removing technical debt, and continuously modernising the platform to take advantage of evolving AWS capabilities.\nThe Senior Cloud Engineer works closely with the AWS Platform Architect, Technical Delivery Lead, Platform Engineering teams, and peer technology services to translate architectural direction into practical, production-ready engineering outcomes.\nThis is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep AWS expertise, strong software engineering practices, and the ability to solve complex technical challenges across the breadth of the AWS platform. The role does not have line management responsibility but provides technical leadership, mentoring, and engineering expertise within the squad.\nThe role requires a strong platform approach - building reusable capabilities that can support many application teams rather than delivering one-off solution.\nWhat you will deliver\nEngineer and enhance the AWS Platform\nDesign, develop, automate, and operate core AWS platform capabilities.\nCreate reusable services and automation that simplify cloud adoption for application teams.\nDeliver improvements that strengthen security, reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, and developer experience.\nCollaborate with engineers and architects to deliver platform roadmap initiatives.\nTurn architectural designs into practical, production-ready Platform services.\n* Modernise existing capabilities to align with AWS standard processes and current service offerings.\n* Continuously evaluate opportunities to simplify, automate, and improve platform capabilities.\n* Ensure the AWS Platform remains current with evolving AWS services, features, and recommended architectures.\n* Retire legacy approaches and introduce improved patterns where consistent engineering practices across the AWS community.\nWhat you will need to be successful\nTechnical skills and experience\n* Extensive hands-on experience engineering and operating enterprise-scale AWS environments.\n* Strong software engineering skills with significant experience developing automation and platform capabilities using **Python** and **AWS CloudFormation**.\n*
