This role is a great fit for a student combining electrical engineering and computer science coursework who wants hands-on experience with real hardware, communication protocols, and low-level software development.\nYou'll work alongside experienced firmware and hardware engineers on active projects, gaining exposure to the full embedded development lifecycle - from schematic review and communication interfaces to writing, testing, and debugging firmware on real boards.\nWhat You'll Do\nWrite and debug firmware in C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems\n\nImplement and troubleshoot communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and Serial (UART)\n\nUse JTAG emulators and debugging tools to identify and resolve hardware/firmware issues\n\nDevelop Python scripts to support test automation, data collection, and validation\n\nUse AI tools to accelerate code generation and build test scripts\n\nSupport data processing and analysis from test and sensor data\n\nPrototype and validate designs using off-the-shelf development boards (e.g., Arduino, vendor eval boards)\n\nCollaborate with hardware and software teams to bring designs from concept to working prototype\n\nDocument code, test procedures, and results clearly for the team\n\nQualifications\nRequired:\nCurrently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field\n\nProficiency with C/C++\n\nWorking knowledge of Python\n\nPreferred:\nCoursework or hands-on experience with microcontrollers and basic circuits\n\nExperience with communication interfaces: I2C, SPI, and Serial\n\nFamiliarity with JTAG emulators and hardware debugging tools\n\nGeneral understanding of using AI tools to generate code and test scripts\n\nExperience with data processing or analysis\n\nHands-on experience with development boards such as Arduino or other vendor development kits\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nAn ideal candidate blends electrical engineering fundamentals with strong software skills - someone curious about how hardware and software meet, comfortable debugging at the board level, and eager to learn on real projects with real deadlines.\nJob Location\nEden Prairie, Minnesota (no relocation or housing assistance available)\n\nTerm/Hours\nSpring/Summer 2027 start, 2-3 semester rotation, can be consecutive or non-consecutive semesters.
