This work is accomplished throughout the 100 buildings and 235 acres of Brandeis’ Campus.\nMust have extensive knowledge of sanitary codes regarding the installation of plumbing systems and associated equipment. Must have a minimum of five years’ experience in the general maintenance field and be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic maintenance skills.\nThe hourly rate for this position is $47.29. This is a 40-hour work week.\nThis position is a Local 615, 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU) position.\nKey Responsibilities:\nFunctions:\nCommunicate assignments, schedules, and work status updates with supervisors, staff, and campus partners.\n\nAssist with work prioritization, coordination, and distribution as directed.\n\nTrain, orient, and provide guidance to staff as assigned.\n\nServe as a liaison between union staff, supervisors, contractors, and campus departments.\n\nCollaborate with contractors and campus personnel as needed.\n\nAttend meetings and obtain required permits as necessary.\n\nMain Functions:\nInstall, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, equipment, fixtures, and related mechanical systems.\n\nPerform preventative maintenance and repairs on plumbing distribution systems, pumps, valves, pressure regulators, and laboratory equipment.\n\nInstall and repair piping systems using appropriate tools and techniques.\n\nRead and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work instructions to complete installations and repairs.\n\nPerform testing and inspections to ensure systems meet specifications and code requirements.\n\nIdentify materials, maintain records, complete reports, and update work orders using the department’s computerized work order system.\n\nDiagnose and resolve plumbing issues independently with minimal supervision.\n\nSupport campus operations during emergencies, events, annual shutdowns, opening of school, and commencement.\n\nOperate ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and other equipment required to access work areas.\n\nInstall appliances and equipment as needed.\n\nGeneral Functions:\nFollow OSHA and university safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.\n\nReport building damage, equipment issues, and maintenance needs.\n\nRespond to emergency service calls as needed.\n\nMaintain accurate logs, time records, and shift reports.\n\nParticipate in training to maintain and enhance technical knowledge and skills.\n\nEstablish positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and campus community members.\n\nAdapt to changing priorities and deadlines.\n\nJob Qualifications and Requirements:\nProlonged periods of standing and walking.\n\nMust be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.\n\nMust work on ladders, bucks trucks, scaffolds, and pits.\n\nManually lift up to 60 pounds. Heavier material or equipment is lifted using other methods.\n\nWork inside and outside all campus buildings and grounds; including on rooftops, in vaults, and outside throughout campus property.\n\nWork will be performed in and outside during all New England seasons.\n\nDrive a University Vehicle.\n\nEducation/Work Experience/Licenses:\nHigh School Diploma or GED required, vocational or technical training required.\n\nValid and current United States Driver’s License required.\n\nValid Massachusetts Journeyman’s Plumbing License required.\n\nValid Massachusetts Master Plumbing License required.\n\nValid Massachusetts Certification as a Backflow Prevention Device Tester required.\n\nOSHA 10 preferred training.\n\n5 years total work-related experience.\n\nPay Range Disclosure\nThe University's pay ranges represent a good faith estimate of what Brandeis reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting.
