If Braze sounds like a place where you can thrive, we can’t wait to meet you.\nWHAT YOU'LL DO\nThe MongoDB Database Administrator (DBA) role is part of the Platform Engineering division within Infrastructure and is responsible for operating, scaling, and securing our internal MongoDB platform. This position supports a growing fleet of MongoDB clusters that back product-critical features, internal systems, and distributed services.\nThis role partners closely with SREs, application engineers, and the platform security team to ensure MongoDB clusters are performant, resilient, compliant, and well-automated. Our clusters run on a modern Kubernetes-based infrastructure and are managed through GitOps and infrastructure-as-code practices. The DBAwill help evolve and mature the platform, support backup and disaster recovery strategies, and assist engineers in designing efficient, durable MongoDB usage.\nMain responsibilities:\n1) Cluster Operations & Reliability:\nOperate production MongoDB clusters running in Kubernetes across multiple regions and clouds\nMonitor cluster health, performance, replication, and storage usage, and proactively address degradation\nDebug and resolve availability, latency, or data consistency issues in partnership with SREs\nParticipate in on-call rotations as a subject matter expert for MongoDB infrastructure\n2) Automation & Tooling:\nAutomate routine operations such as database user management, cluster scaling, version upgrades, and backup restores\nMaintain and improve internal tooling used for MongoDB observability, lifecycle management, and access control\nCollaborate with Platform Engineering on Kubernetes-based deployment patterns and GitOps workflows\n3) Backup, Restore & Disaster Recovery:\nImplement and maintain point-in-time recovery, daily snapshots, and cross-region backup strategies\nRegularly validate restores and participate in resilience exercises and disaster recovery planning\nPartner with Security and Compliance teams to ensure backups meet RTO/RPOtargets and audit requirements\n4) Engineering Support & Best Practices:\nAssist product engineering teams with schema design, indexing strategies, and performance tuning\nPromote internal best practices for efficient queries, data modeling, and shard key design\nDocument operational runbooks, configuration standards, and performance baselines\nWHO YOU ARE\nExperience:\nRelevant proven work experience managing MongoDB in production environments at scale\nStrong working knowledge of replica sets, sharding, WiredTiger storage engine, oplogs, and journaling\nExperience operating MongoDB in cloud or containerized environments (Kubernetes preferred)\nSkills:\nComfortable with automation and scripting in languages like Bash, Python, or Go\nProficient with MongoDB CLI tools, Atlas APIs, and backup/restore tooling (e.g., mongodump, mongorestore, mongosh, Ops Manager)\nFamiliar with observability stacks (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana) and alerting strategies\nExperience with GitOps workflows and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD) is a plus\nMindset:\nDetail-oriented and reliability-focused: treats data loss and downtime as unacceptable\nStrong communicator: able to document clearly, partner cross-functionally, and lead incident response\nGrowth-oriented: comfortable evolving systems, adopting new automation, and supporting other engineers\nBonus qualifications:\nExperience with other database platforms (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB)\nFamiliarity with security best practices and compliance frameworks like SOX or SOC 2\nContributions to open source MongoDB tooling or community forums\nWHAT WE OFFER\nBraze benefits vary by location, and we encourage you to review our specific benefits offerings for each country here.
