The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with BRC’s motivated and engaging Team, where inclusivity, diversity, and positive work experiences is our top priority.\nPosition Summary\nThe Design Engineer - Custom supports the development of custom products from initial customer requirements through design, prototyping, testing, and transition to production. Working closely with the Design, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and client teams, this role develops practical, manufacturable solutions that meet functional, aesthetic, quality, and performance requirements.\nThe Design Engineer - Custom will work directly with clients across North America on custom and unique product applications. This is a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and tight timelines.\nResponsibilities\nDevelop and refine innovative product designs based on customer requirements, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and existing construction methods.\nTranslate customer and project requirements into practical, manufacturable product solutions.\nCreate detailed 3D models, assemblies, production drawings, and Bills of Materials using SolidWorks.\nDevelop prototypes and pre-production products to evaluate form, function, fit, manufacturability, and performance.\nAnalyze and improve existing products, components, and manufacturing processes to improve performance, efficiency, quality, and cost.\nCollaborate with Design, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, vendors, and clients to resolve product and technical challenges.\nSupport the transition of new products and design changes into production, ensuring designs are clearly documented and manufacturable.\nIdentify and evaluate materials, components, manufacturing processes, and fabrication methods for new and existing products.\nWork with vendors to source components, investigate fabrication solutions, obtain pricing, and assess technical feasibility.\nInterpret applicable testing requirements and standards and support preliminary product testing to validate designs. This may include standards such as BIFMA, depending on the product and application.\nResearch new technologies, materials, manufacturing methods, industry trends, competitive products, and sustainable design practices to identify opportunities for product and process improvement.\nDevelop and implement tools, processes, and best practices that improve the product development process and support the company’s continued growth.\nCommunicate design concepts, technical information, project status, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.\nManage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining quality, accuracy, and project timelines.\nRequirements\nQualifications\nDegree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related discipline.\n2+ years of experience in product design, design engineering, or a related role within a manufacturing environment, or equivalent practical experience.\nStrong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD, including the ability to create detailed models, assemblies, drawings, and Bills of Materials.\nStrong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, fabrication methods, and design for manufacturability.\nStrong project and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.\nExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate directly with clients, vendors, and internal teams.\nEligible to work in Canada.\nAssets\nExperience with SolidWorks PDM or other product data-management systems.\nExperience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign.\nExperience with KeyShot or other 3D rendering/visualization software.\nExperience with product testing and applicable industry standards, including BIFMA.\nExperience working directly with customers on custom product development.\nExperience with prototyping,
