We’re hiring a Underwriter to own the decisions behind that growth: which merchants we support, on what terms, and how we protect Breeze from chargebacks, refunds, fraud, and merchant failure.\nYou’ll own underwriting from application through ongoing monitoring, combining corporate credit analysis with sharp financial judgment to make high-impact decisions. This is a hands-on builder role with the autonomy to create the policies, scorecards, and processes that will shape how Breeze manages risk and scales globally.\nWhat You'll Do\nUnderwrite new merchant applications: analyze financials, funding, runway/burn/unit economics; assess the business model's liability tail; make approve/decline/conditional decisions with a documented rationale\nSet reserves, holdbacks, volume caps and exposure limits\nRun portfolio re-reviews, adjust terms as merchant risk changes, maintain a watchlist/escalation path, track realized losses back into the framework\nBuild and maintain underwriting policy, scorecard, and exposure reporting to a standard that satisfies a bank/auditor\nUse AI/data tooling to speed up file review and decisioning\nPartner with Sales, Treasury Ops, Risk/Compliance, and support bank/acquirer diligence\nWhat We're Looking For\n3+ years of experience in corporate debt analysis and underwriting - venture debt, growth lending, revenue-based finance, private credit, commercial banking, or a startup lending book\nThat experience should include underwriting startups and privately held companies.You should be comfortable forming a view from incomplete, unaudited, fast-moving financials if needed. \nDemonstrated ownership of a credit decision: you have written the memo, taken a position, and defended it to a committee or a decision-maker\nFluency with financial statements, cash flow analysis, runway, burn and unit economics\nAdvanced Excel (comfort building models and working with large transaction-level datasets) and some degree of experience in AI enablement of finance and analysis workflows\nNice to Have\nPayments/fintech/marketplace/MoR exposure; chargeback/refund/settlement risk\nRolling reserves, holdbacks, chargeback ratios, card scheme monitoring\nExperience building/improving an underwriting policy or scorecard\nBigQuery or similar\nDigital goods, gaming, creator economy, subscription, or prediction markets\nOur Compensation Philosophy!\nThe annual base salary range for this role is $110,000-$140,000 in New York. This range represents the minimum and maximum annual base salary that Breeze, in good faith, expects to pay for this position at the time of posting.
