Scunthorpe Operations\nPurpose of Position\nReporting to the Operations Manager , the Maintenance Engineering Supervisor oversees all site maintenance activities across Brenntag's Scunthorpe Facilities to ensure the safe, compliant and efficient running of plant operations, equipment, and associated assets.\nThe role has a strong focus on DSEAR/ATEX compliance, hazardous-area equipment, and the maintenance of semi-automated machinery within liquid processing operations.\nKey Responsibilities\nLeadership & Team Management\nLead, coach, and develop the Maintenance Engineering team across two sites, promoting a high-performance culture and the value of Safety First.\n\nManage performance, capability development, and resource allocation for all site maintenance engineers to provide a flexible, cross-functional resource to cover planned maintenance and emergency repairs across both sites\n\nEnsure all team activities follow company policies, Process Safety Management procedures, and statutory requirements.\n\nMaintenance Planning & Delivery\nOversee all planned, preventive, and reactive maintenance to maximise asset uptime and minimise operational disruption.\n\nPlan and prioritise maintenance workloads across engineering personnel.\n\nManage the CMMS (SHIRE), ensuring accurate asset records, work orders, and maintenance routines.\n\nMonitor maintenance KPIs and contractor performance.\n\nOversee maintenance contracts such as air compressors, deionised water plant, and effluent treatment systems.\n\nDSEAR/ATEX & Hazardous Area Compliance\nEnsure all equipment and installations in DSEAR-regulated zones comply with ATEX legislation.\n\nLead hazardous-area inspections and ensure timely resolution of non-conformances.\n\nMaintain hazardous-area documentation.\n\nEnsure repairs and modifications to ATEX equipment maintain certification integrity.\n\nSemi-Automated Machinery & Process Equipment\nOversee maintenance of semi-automated systems including pumps, mixers, conveyors, automated valves, pneumatics, and process instrumentation.\n\nEnsure machine safety systems comply with PUWER.\n\nSupport fault-finding on automated systems.\n\nEnsure automation upgrades follow Management of Change.\n\nProject & Contractor Management\nSupport engineering projects including plant upgrades, automation improvements, and hazardous-area remediation.\n\nManage specialist contractors and ensure compliance with site safety requirements.\n\nSupport project scoping, planning, documentation, and commissioning.\n\nSafety & Compliance\nEnsure compliance with DSEAR, ATEX, COMAH, PUWER, LOLER, Electricity at Work, and Confined Space Working.\n\nEnsure adherence to the Permit-to-Work system.\n\nPromote a strong safety culture.\n\nContinuous Improvement\nIdentify reliability improvements and maintenance optimisation opportunities.\n\nSupport engineering-led performance and cost improvement initiatives.\n\nExperience & Knowledge\nProven experience in a leadership role, developing a motivated, engaged and high performing team\n\nExperience in a safety-critical, regulated environment.\n\nStrong background in process engineering preferably within Bulk Tank Farm and flammable liquids handling operations\n\nWorking knowledge of COMAH, DSEAR/ATEX, PUWER, LOLER, and similar legislation.\n\nCMMS experience (SHIRE or similar).\n\nUnderstanding of maintenance for semi-automated / automated filling & process equipment would be advantageous\n\nUnderstanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies\n\nBudgetary Control and Project Management Experience\n\nPersonal Attributes\nPrioritises Safety above all else.\n\nStrong organisational and communication skills.\n\nDetail-oriented, logical, and numerate.\n\nStrong problem-solving ability.\n\nEducation\nDegree/HND in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline)\n\nNEBOSH General Certificate\n\nCOMPEX Ex01-Ex04 qualification.\n\nBrenntag provides equal employment opportunities to qualified applicants and employees of all backgrounds and identities to create a workplace where difference is valued because it forms a resilient and more innovative organization.
